They were all in pain, you know, when the gateway drug didn't do as much for them any more.

Most likely, conspiracy theories are very popular in that town.

“The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia” is available on YouTube. The Whites must be the most dysfunctional family in the country.

I’ve actually witnessed just as bad where I live. The girl my wife took on as a “little sister” is now 15. My wife’s been a big sister for four years. About a year and a half ago the girls mother died of a drug overdose. The girl was molested about 8 years ago by her aunt’s boyfriend, now, husband.
I’m barely scratching the surface on this group. It’s absolutely insane.

They (the DEA) don’t care.
It is mostly legal drugs.
I have seen to many die from oxy.

This horrendous drug use is not the fault of the degenerates you see on the news killing themselves with drugs. It is the symptom of the despair caused by the destruction of our families.
Kermit/Williamson is my neck of the woods. My family goes back 200+ years in this area and I have lived through its destruction. Up until the '70s our families were strong, hard working, self-supporting, church going people that would walk ten miles to give you the shirt off their back if they knew you needed it. And then the Federal govt came in and started paying our young women to have and raise their young'uns without their families' support.
These young ladies then raised up a generation of brats without any of the qualities I mentioned above. And that generation begat another generation of illegitimate bastards who begat the ones you are now seeing killing themselves with drugs - and I really don't blame them. They grew up without family, church or school showing them the way. Do you expect a child to naturally know right from wrong and that hard work, faith and eduction are the way to a good life? No. That comes from family and the feds took that away from us.
What else is there for these misled skulls full of mush to do? They have no prospect of a good, decent, family centered life so they choose the easy, fun, exciting path of drugs - short as it may be. I pity them, I try to help a few of them, but I don't blame them.

Sorry for the long winded rant, but this is a subject that really pisses me off. We have plenty of good families left around here but as long as the free money for having illegitimate babies exists our daughters will be at risk of being seduced into that lifestyle and another future family will be destroyed.
SCREW the feds and the state govts they enable.

This assumes that all 2900 people are on opiods on a full time basis. Not a reasonable assumption. You are correct. BUT, people on these pills are usually directed to take 1-2 every 4-6 hours as needed, so even if half the people in the town were on it, it wouldn't be a big deal. Now, if 100 people in the town were the only ones on it, then sure, there's a problem. But this is nothing more than bedwetting.
That said, they are indeed dangerous drugs.
