Hard rock band Avenged Sevenfold are up for a Best Rock Song Grammy on Sunday night for The Stage off of their 2016 album of the same name. But while its their first ever Grammy nomination, theyll be sitting out the ceremony, says frontman M. Shadows, mainly because their category wont be televised.
Texting to radio personality Eddie Trunk, singer M. Shadows says the trip to New York City for the Grammy Awards would be a waste of time and money for the band, which is currently on tour with Breaking Benjamin and Bullet For My Valentine.
Per metal site Blabbermouth, Shadows doesnt consider their sitting out the ceremony on Jan. 28 to be a protest, but rather, a financial decision (travel expenses would have cost over $150,000 said Shadows) in addition to a statement on the marginalization of rock music, which he noted on Twitter is relegated to the non-televised portion of the Grammys.
Said Shadows, according to Trunk: Rock Song of the year cant get two minutes? And they put us in some side venue no one gives a f about? F that waste of time and money.
Also nominated for Best Rock Song are Metallica, Foo Fighters, K. Flay and Nothing More.

Cecile McLorin Salvant poses in the press room with the best jazz vocal album award for "Dreams And Daggers" at the 60th annual Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, in New York.
Not too many Trump fans at this year's Grammy Awards I guess.
Not who, but rather, what, is that?
Please tell you’ve listened to Iron Maiden.
Reminds me of that song Teenage Dirtbag. Ive got two tickets to Iron Maiden
Im thinking about it...
I’m watching CBS’s telecast of the final round of the PGA tournament at Torrey Pines and the final groups are playing slow as molasses. So the announcers, Nantz and Faldo, are half apologizing to the audience that has been deprived of at least a half hour’s worth of “Red Carpet Arrivals” as the Uppity Worthless arrive in their limos to the Big Show and besides enjoying a thrilling tournament finish (if you play golf, anyway) and laughing my ass off at the hundreds of thousands of non-whites and Caucasian oxygen wasters who are getting their undergarments all twisted because they are missing the last hippity-hoppity Easter’s on it’s way Grammy nominee arrive with his b*tches in a two million dollar Maybach stretch limo. I can hear the mass moans “F*cking white man game meesin’ up ma Grammies!”
Lol!
I agree. Every time I had to see one of those crappy melodic medal bands like Avenged Sevenfold at LoudPark (a yearly Tokyo festival), I just walk out and hang at the bar until a better band is up. I haven’t gone for the last few years because of too many crap “rock n roll” bands on the lineup. I even skipped seeing Alice Cooper headline last year because I didn’t want to spend the time and $120.00 to see so many crappy bands just to see two that I would have liked. The last great big concert I went to was Iron Maiden’s Book Of Souls in Tokyo. I’m so proud that I finally got to see Maiden after all these years of being a big fan.
>>Or when Jethro Tull beat out Metallica.
And that was in the “Heavy Metal / Hard Rock” category. I love Jethro Tull too, but yeah, come on. That was a ridiculous thing to do to Metallica.
I first heard Greta Van Fleet this summer. They absolutely killed it. Rock on young bucks!!!!
With a... Rock?

No one is allowed to say what killed MTV.
I’ve never heard of any of these groups. [sigh]
Heck, Grand Funk Railroad isn’t even in the RNR HOF. That’s crazy - they outsold Zep during the 70’s and were the people’s RnR band.
Never heard of ‘em before. I don’t listen to radio much; too much crap on it.
But I’m willing to give anybody a fair liste ... just watched a video of “Hail to the King” on youtube.
YEAH!!! Metal is still alive!!!
BTW, if you like “Avenged Sevenfold”, you might also want to check out “Disturbed”.
nice, thanks for sharing. I hadn’t even bothered to look at who won!
Those kids are gonna be great! I hadnt heard them before. The things you find on Free Republic. Thanks!
They remind me of the old days when rock was rock.
