Hard rock band Avenged Sevenfold are up for a Best Rock Song Grammy on Sunday night for The Stage off of their 2016 album of the same name. But while its their first ever Grammy nomination, theyll be sitting out the ceremony, says frontman M. Shadows, mainly because their category wont be televised.
Texting to radio personality Eddie Trunk, singer M. Shadows says the trip to New York City for the Grammy Awards would be a waste of time and money for the band, which is currently on tour with Breaking Benjamin and Bullet For My Valentine.
Per metal site Blabbermouth, Shadows doesnt consider their sitting out the ceremony on Jan. 28 to be a protest, but rather, a financial decision (travel expenses would have cost over $150,000 said Shadows) in addition to a statement on the marginalization of rock music, which he noted on Twitter is relegated to the non-televised portion of the Grammys.
Said Shadows, according to Trunk: Rock Song of the year cant get two minutes? And they put us in some side venue no one gives a f about? F that waste of time and money.
Also nominated for Best Rock Song are Metallica, Foo Fighters, K. Flay and Nothing More.

There have been Black awards shows for decades, but they were not really paid attention to. Hence, the Battle Cry of racism became the norm. Just two years ago, we had the #OscarsSoWhite protest and hissy fit. The result? The Oscar for best picture last year went to a gay Black film.
Impressive! If CCR and LZ had a love child!
I mean come on, how can you beat this?
Who can respect the Grammys when they made "You Light Up My Life" and "We Are The World" songs of the year?
What about when they named Milli Vanilli best new band?
It's like when Obama was given a Nobel Peace prize for doing absolutely nothing for it. Makes the award meaningless for everybody else.
Or when Jethro Tull beat out Metallica.
Look, Tull was great in their day, but really?
The whole of Free Republic had a field day with that, giving the impostor tons and tons of awards. I gave him honorary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'm glad JimRob and the mods let us blow off that steam.
“.......Rock Gets No Respect..............
It deserves none! Garbage noise!
The War on Drugs won, which was completely unexpected.
Love their song, Pain.

Great song.
Yes,LaLa Land and Hidden Figures lost to a crap movie that nobody saw!
Its too much for me so I cant judge the quality, or lack there of, but my son is a fan. Sounds like awful angry noise to me-its what gets him pumped up for the mat. Whatever it takes, I guess.
Please say you aren't serious.
No it isn't.
Rock music, especially heavy metal and punk have never been better. Amazing quantity and quality out there. Im 50 yrs old and love music and have started seeing live music frequently
Avenged sevenfold is a great band. They are conservative and patriotic too.
That was really nice! Hadn’t heard of that band before.
Thanks!
Too many notes.
You just haven't heard the right stuff yet.
Try this one out. It's a lyric video, so it should be easy to follow along. Don't worry about the time, it goes by too fast.
Yup. Check out this headline right now on Drudge:
Kendrick Lamar is king of Grammys, so far, with 5 wins
