"We're aware of an issue with a protection update that shipped an hour ago that is causing all web traffic to be blocked and RAM usage to climb. We are triaging this right now with all hands on deck. I will have an update shortly with root cause and will share with all of you as I get information.

I completely appreciate the pain this is causing our users and we are working hard to resolve this"

The Web has no shortage of complexity.

Interesting. I use MalWareBytes on Windows 7. I’ve noticed today that my memory usage repeatedly began to increase constantly until system failure. I could find no obvious cause. This is a possible clue.

Mine came up warning that virus detection was shut off. I turned it on but it wouldn’t stay on, so figured I have been attacked. Went to MWB and downloaded a fresh copy. When I sent to restart, my OS selector skips by so quickly I end up here on Linux Mint and am unable to get back in Windows. Some say this is a good thing ... LOL

Well I’ve got MWB Premium on 1 Win 7 system and Pro on another. The Premium one seems to be experiencing the memory issue, while the Pro version is blocking websites(have seen this before, and it too required a malwarebytes fix/update)

I think that’s a popup/login screen out in Utah at the NSA facility.

I'd recommend staying in the Bunker and if necessary, use Windows in a Lockbox VirtualBox.

if you saw mem usage increase, you should have been able to see what the memory hog was also

are you using windoze task manager?

Yes. But the memory loss was so rapid that by the time I re-booted the system, I couldn't open Resource Monitor. I was using Speccy to track memory use. Where in the Task manager can you see memory usage by process? I can see CPU but not memory use.

At any rate, the issue seems to have been corrected. Memory is stable now (with MWB running).

Yup - I had to kill the Malwarebytes service earlier this morning. Good to see they’re aware of the issue and working on it.

I have Malwarebyes Premium installed on a Win 7 computer, but do not let it load on startup, so I haven’t downloaded any updates in a few days. Guess I’ll just wait it out for a few more days.

Since this has gotten the attention of several Malwarebytes users, is anyone using Malwarebytes as their only real-time, anti-virus/anti-malware protection? It has that capability now, but doesn’t score so high with some testing services.

in task manager under the Process tab you’ll see
Image Name|User Name|Session ID|CPU| Mem Usage

click where it says Mem Usage twice, the first time you click it it will display usage from lowest to highest, the second time will switch it from highest to lowest and show you the memhog

Thank you. I see it now.

The problem has definitely been fixed by a subsequent update. Pretty quick work by MalWareBytes people.

I had to restart a couple of times(as stated on the forum)...seems OK now(no memory issues/web protection back on)

"Update package version 1.0.3803 or higher contains the fix"

I’ve been happy with MWB as a the sole gate-keeper and scanner for several years. When the notion strikes, I’ll run a Spybot scan just for grins.
