Trump Immigration Plan Demands Tough Concessions From Democrats
NY Times ^ | Jan. 25, 2018 | MICHAEL D. SHEAR and SHERYL GAY STOLBERG

President Trump proposed legislation on Thursday that would provides a path to citizenship for as many as 1.8 million young, undocumented immigrants in exchange for an end to decades of family-based migration policies, a massive border wall and a vast crackdown on other illegal immigrants already living in the country.

Describing the plan as “extremely generous” but a take-it-or-leave-it proposal by the president, White House officials said they hoped it will be embraced by conservatives and centrists in Congress as the first step in an even broader effort to fix the nation’s broken immigration system.

But the plan — drafted by Stephen Miller, the president’s hard-line domestic policy adviser and John F. Kelly, the White House chief of staff — was immediately rejected by Democrats, pro-immigration activists and some Republicans, with some describing it as nothing but a heartless attempt to rid the country of immigrants and slam shut the nation’s borders.

Trump could offer full citizenship to all ~15 million illegals, chain migration, lottery immigration, and zero deportations in return for a border wall and security and the Democrats would reject it. The issue here is not the issue.

BINGO, Winner winner, chicken dinner

Finally, somebody gets it! Trump can now say “I was very generous and the democrats rejected it”. Smart play by Trump!

I wonder if Trump is making a calculation, a risky one albeit, but a calculation that what he's asking for will never get enough votes to pass the senate.

If/when it fails, he can take that to the people and say he tried to negotiate but the (D)'s wanted only their way.

If it passes congress, he could always veto it if we melt the w.h. phone lines.

This deal is not a deal yet. Thank goodness.
However, u don’t know my level of toleration,
just as I don’t know your level of toleration
regarding the number Trump may give amnesty to.
Continued support of Trump will be a personal
individual decision from all of us.

I will wait and see what a final bill looks like, if a bill
is passed.

Many of us will weigh the great things Trump has done,
vs a final amnesty bill on a individual basis.

“They want a reaction .

We need to give them one . “

Nothing wrong with that...James Woods has been very vocal in his warnings to President Trump not to betray his base. Coulter, too.

Trump lied to his voters. This voter will be sitting at home election day if he actually goes through with this citizenship and lunacy wall deal.

Those who are here, OK, but no more.

Maybe you should tune in Tucker or Dobbs, the bill they are reporting on does none of that. What it will do is lose the House for sure and maybe the Senate, like Tokyo Rove did and over the same issue.

Chain migration does not end but limits to immediate family. Includes people that are not even in DACA.

I can hope the House or Senate will not for it.

Republicans won the government shut down war and gave it away two days later. How typical. This is Trump’s Read My Lips moment. If he lied to us, i am done with him, forever.

Unfortunately , the Trump WH is full of Daca Amnesty supporters like Ivanka , Jared , Cohn and Kelly versus poor
Miller .

We need to blow up the WH phones .

It appears Miller lost and the clueless Limo Libs from Manhattan are running the WH Daca Amnesty disaster down the tracks again .

Don’t worry, folks.. he knows the dems will never go for it, because they have to give up far more than they’re willing. It won’t come to pass, but Trump can have the upper hand politically.

If what you say is true then there is no point in doing anything at all about illegal immigration, because anything can be undone by a subsequent congress.

I hope not. I agree with you though, that the message should be loud and unified to this amnesty bullsh!t:

HELL NO.

“This voter will be sitting at home election day if he actually goes through with this citizenship and lunacy wall deal.”

There is no rescue ship in this sea. This is it. Trump’s fate and America’s fate are inextricably intertwined. Known to every rational person well before the 2016 elections. Either we wrest control of the fed govt from the rabid lefties and deal with the 10’s of millions of illegal aliens or America is over. Elections won’t matter anymore.

It’s do or die time.

Continued support of Trump will be a personal individual decision from all of us.

Here's mine: I support Trump. There is no such thing as perfect especially in politics. Trump needs lots of help against the deep state, the media, etc. Even if he doesn't get your support on DACA you should consider supporting him more generally.

I still support him. No DACA bill has been passed.
I was trying to point out that different people have
different toleration levels regarding amnesty.
And that could affect his support.

As of now, there is no amnesty.

As of now there is no amnesty and there are 10 million or more illegals. We have to start with the problems we can fix. Can we deport 10 million illegals? No. they will walk back over the border en masse. So we trade a wall for some amnesty. Stop chain migration in exchange for some more amnesty.

If we have other bargaining chips than amnesty I'm not seeing them.
