snip:

In return, the White House would like to see a $25 billion investment in a trust for border infrastructure and technology, as well as more funds for personnel, and an end to family migration beyond spouses and minor children. The diversity visa lottery would also be abolished, with those visas going to work through a backlog of people already waiting for family visas and high-skilled immigration green cards.
In what may end up being the most contentious piece of the proposal, the White House is also defining as border security closing “legal loopholes” that will allow it to deport more immigrants — which would likely include changes in immigration enforcement authority that would be virtually impossible for Democrats to swallow.

The Democrats will never go for this.

I think we will have to support this. But we need to also eliminate the incentives to stay to get the others to self-deport. Not just e-verify, but also a cultural change to stop people from hiring them.

The deportation advocates don't seem to have a plan for that. Send buses to the barrio? My plan is simple, encourage self-deportation of as many as possible by setting up a work permit system for the rest. Then if you see a lawn mower, he better have a work permit.

In addition to that, add E-Verify.

Then take some of the Dreamers that are actually attending schools and allow them to get student visas while applying for citizenship. Let those who are employed get work visas and apply for citizenship. Then do background checks. Those who don’t qualify, get deported.

I kind of like it (assuming CNN is fully accurate here, which is a big if).

So long as strict enforcement and wall construction begins immediately. That’s really the key. And as another pointed out, strong penalties for those who continue to hire illegals (to encourage self deportation).

Without self deportation, there’s no way enforced deportation will do it alone. Similarly, without strict enforced deportation, and stiff fines for those employing these people, self deportation will be minimal.
