We have other ways of phrasing it, but in reality every time you have to flash your drivers license or passport, every time you go through the airport you’re “showing zee papers”. In Europe, they still CALL them “your papers.”

So...if I entered another country illegally, breaking and disrespecting their laws, I should not be surprised if someone came to arrest me.

More like an “ignored visa expiration.”

...do the full verification where you get the little star on your license.

Not familiar with this. Explain, please.

If they are really trying to find and deport illegal aliens, then I don’t mind.

The “advocacy groups” helped create the circumstances that make this necessary, so they can ESAD and GOMC.

“demanding from people on board proof of citizenship”

Did they ask people if they were US citizens or demand certified birth certificates?

” I’m very concerned about these officers questioning her without a lawyer present.”

Yeah, that’s the ticket! When you are stopped for speeding, you always call your lawyer.

This is funny. My wife and I were taking a vacation on a ship sailing out of a Canadian port and we had to cross the border from the US. At that time we were not being required to hand over our passports as we were carrying military ID’s which we were told would suffice as ID.

They came back on to the bus and everyone got their information back except the wife and I and we, and the bus, were detained. Guessed right when I figured they used the US federal sources to check on my ID, that because of my clearance level, the system spit them out with nothing. I didn’t exist. Course this raised a few red flags, but after a couple of calls to sources I gave them, we were back on our merry way. At least as
the wife and I were leaving the bus when detained, I let the other passengers know I was not an international spy. Got a laugh.

I wasn’t, and still am not, mad at them for doing it. It’s their job. Glad they were diligent. I’d rather the US lose a criminal in the right direction than one escape to the wrong direction so it can return.

“So...if I entered another country illegally, breaking and disrespecting their laws, I should not be surprised if someone came to arrest me.”

Yes, but with all the left-wing “agencies,” like the Southern Poverty Law Center and the ACLU, telling these illegal entrants that they have “civil rights” here, what you end up with is a bunch of illegal parrots who spew out this $hit about their “rights” here any time we engage them in lawful enforcement activities. I just wished that ICE would really get on with locating and deporting “visa overstays,” because as I understand it, they have no legal “due process,” unlike those who have sneaked into the country. When you have a visa, you have already agreed to leave on or before the date the visa expires.

The Border Patrol is serving and protecting their communities, and the nation, as a whole. They have the authority to board and inspect all vehicles, trains, planes, you name it...within 100 miles of the border. This has been standard procedure since the 1930’s. By the very definition of illegal alien, anyone who overstays their visa is a criminal, and subject to arrest, prosecution & deportation. Well done, Border Patrol, well done.

My state does not verify citizenship in order to get a license. That said, I got a passport card and carry it next to my license.

In 2002 I took Greyhound from Mo to Florida. In Tallahassee we had a security check.

Basically they asked where we were coming from, where we were going and the reason for the trip. I don’t recall having to show id.

They pulled a guy off and searched his bags. He had a lot of money. Likely a drug runner. I figure they already suspected him and asking everyone questions was to make it appear that he wasn’t the target.
