Given that the Russians and pretty much the Chinese have the capability to detect missile launches, I would think we would have heard from them if it was real. Even if the NSC was trying to hide a real launch, which I doubt.
Japan would have noticed, too. From ground-based systems, if nothing else.
Maybe, but I don’t discount much these days with Fake News and Gov’t Propaganda.
