Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the public urging of President Donald Trump has been pressuring FBI Director Christopher Wray to fire Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, but Wray threatened to resign if McCabe was removed, according to three sources with direct knowledge.
McGahn has been informed about these ongoing conversations, though he has not spoken with Wray about FBI personnel, according to an administration source briefed on the situation. Trump nominated Wray, previously George W. Bush's Deputy Attorney General, last June to replace James Comey as director.
Trump has also tweeted negatively about other senior FBI officials who are allies of Comey, including the former top FBI lawyer James A. Baker who was recently reassigned after pressure from Sessions.
White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah said of Wray: As weve said, the president has enormous respect for the thousands of rank and file FBI agents who make up the worlds most professional and talented law enforcement agency. He believes politically-motivated senior leaders including former Director Comey and others he empowered have tainted the agencys reputation for unbiased pursuit of justice. The president appointed Chris Wray because he is a man of true character and integrity and the right choice to clean up the misconduct at the highest levels of the FBI and give the rank and file confidence in their leadership.
As I reported last night, Sessions has adamantly urged Wray to make a "fresh start" with his core team.
Trump and other Republicans have been hammering McCabe who was selected by the White House as acting director after the Comey firing for months on Twitter.
The latest: The New York Times and others reported in December that McCabe "is expected to retire after he becomes eligible for his pension [in] early [2018]." But senior Justice officials are still not sure what McCabe plans to do.
The FBI declined to comment for this story. Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores also declined to comment.
Yup. They know McCabe is about to be fired. So perhaps they are pushing Wray to play the Trump-is-pushing-me game.
Fire the worthless idiot or let him quit, nothing lost with his departure.
I don’t understand Wray. Trump appointed him yet it is like Comey never left. Congress had to threaten contempt to get both the FBI and DOJ to release the documentation that resulted in the 4 page memo. And now Wray claims that 5 month of Strzok texts are missing with no interest in following up with Verizon and ATT to gather them. And now he is protecting McCabe who is at the center of the scandal.
I can’t believe this.
Before I saw this article I wrote a post complaining about Wray on another thread, and the way his confirmation hearing went.
In my mind there were just too many confirmations from the dems. I just knew something was not right.
This is from AXIOS, a newer leftist smear-site and toilet paper substitute.
Take what they say with a very small grain of salt, or arsenic.
The Left has created so many new FAKE NEWS organizations that I cannot keep up with them, who they are, what their names are, who their staff are, and who FUNDS them.
How about Freepers doing some digging and posting here about these groups. A concerned effort to shine some disinfectant sunlight on them would be very welcomed and is badly needed.
Please, somehow I doubt Wray threatened to resign over such a compromised actor as McCabe. Who writes this stuff, it is pure fantasy.
Don’t believe it as stated. Trump know the enormous pressure Wray is under as the FBI takes lots of hits - he doesn’t want to overwhelm him by making it tougher....for now.
To hell with these punks. They are not guaranteed a job. They are not gifts to us from the police gods. They are employees of the people of the United States. If you cannot take orders like any other employee, put your resignation on my desk by noon, clean out your office, and go write your Hate Trump Book and join back in with your dimocrat friends who are paying you under the table to under mine the president. I am sick and tired of these so called public servants who think it is all about THEM and not about the Republic. Screw him. FIRE HIM NOW!!!
