Congress opened its second day under the government shutdown Sunday with a prayer from the chaplain labeling the entire thing a miscalculation and pleading for sanity to prevail.
Barry Black, a former Navy admiral and longtime chaplain, warned Congress might “reap the whirlwind” from the shutdown if they don’t find a way to cooperate.
“Discontinue the blame game,” he urged them.
The partial shutdown hasn’t had a deep impact yet, with it taking effect over a weekend. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell warned that it will hit Monday, when the federal workforce would normally return to work.

What disturbs me is the lack of accountability. When Democrats-communists do something wrong, people always justify it by equating it. “You know both sides are guilty of this sort of thing.”
However, when Republicans do it those commies are all about how bad our party is. Done with this deflection.
It is my opinion that Schumer is a bona fide one hundred % Brooklyn ambulance chaser. Talent more than this he does not possess.
Federal workers are not to report to work, but when they eventually return, they will receive their back pay? So Federal workers are in effect getting a paid vacation?

Schumer has been working hard at trying to put the blame on President Trump and it doesn’t look like he’s succeeding.
The MSM has surprising been critical of Schumer and Dems as being behind the shutdown so far, hopefully that continues.
They know the Big Ugly is coming.

No back pay for anyone wold bring heavy pressure from constituents on the congress critters.
If they are getting back pay for when they are off, they might as well be at work. File under, when is a non-budget really a budget,.
I always thought that job was to ask God’s hand in wisdom and guidance over deliberations concerning the betterment of the country.

They GET PAID for every shutdown....so why aren’t they working instead of vacationing?
This crap would NEVER happen in the private slave sector. We have to work and pay taxes no matter what.

On June 27, 2003, Black was elected the 62nd chaplain of the United States Senate. He began working in the Senate on July 7, 2003.[3]
During the 16-day United States federal government shutdown of 2013, his invocations began to garner widespread national attention. On Oct. 1, the first day of the shutdown, he prayed for divine guidance to, “strengthen our weakness, replacing cynicism with faith and cowardice with courage.” On Oct. 3, he prayed, “Save us from the madness. We acknowledge our transgressions, our shortcomings, our smugness, our selfishness and our pride... Deliver us from the hypocrisy of attempting to sound reasonable while being unreasonable.”[4]
Can it happen that we don’t need all these people and just tell then not to come back...NOT TALKING about the military, I think they need their own bill and long turn...
It would be nice, but violate the Constitution. Article I, Section 8, on powers of congress:
12: To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;
Congress can put out bills that allocate funding for agencies which would continue past the end of the budget term, but there is a special constitutional carve out for the military.
Why? The founders were afraid of the potential abuse a Standing Army would be put to. Historically, the Standing Army was also used to enforce the will of the King. If the founders looked at today's government, they would have added the stipulation that ALL federal "enforcement" agencies are considered elements of a "standing army", and that NO funding for any federal employee charged with enforcement of federal law or regulation could exist for longer than the two year budget term.
Aren’t we supposed to stay on budget? Why do we need to raise the debt ceiling? If I run out of money by the end of the month, I don’t take a bunch of people out to dinner ! Isn’t it time to start making some cuts? Cut, cut, cut! And then cut more!
You are correct - especially since in many cases, supervision/management is left in-place as ‘essential” while the worker bees are sent home to twiddle their thumbs - I was one of the “bosses” that upset higher management in the 2013 fiasco by mentioning it - answer was, that while they have always gotten back pay, they are not 100% assured of it.
And speaking of that, where exactly is the price being paid by senators and congressmen for this little stroke of legislative ineffectiveness? What skin do they have in this game?
It happens locally too. When the towns are called on to be more efficient, lawn signs start popping up threatening to lay off teachers and police.
