Republicans call for release of memo on alleged surveillance abuses
CBS "News" ^ | January 19, 2018 | Staff

Republican members of Congress, mostly conservative, are calling for the release of a brief memo written by the House Intelligence Committee about alleged FISA surveillance abuses. The committee had voted along party lines Thursday to allow House members to read the memo. [snip]

But the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-California, characterized the memo as misleading and inaccurate. The committee, Schiff explained, had voted Thursday along party lines "to grant House Members access to a profoundly misleading set of talking points drafted by Republican staff attacking the FBI and its handling of the investigation."

"Rife with factual inaccuracies and referencing highly classified materials that most of Republican Intelligence Committee members were forced to acknowledge they had never read, this is meant only to give Republican House members a distorted view of the FBI," Schiff's statement said. "This may help carry White House water, but it is a deep disservice to our law enforcement professionals."

Ohhhh. That changes the intent from libs point of view. I was mistaken in thinking the memo came from someone high up in doj intel. I guess the reaction to it will determine if it’s based on facts.

Exactly my thoughts as well, which led to my mistatement above. But it probably explains why we didn't know, because there isn't much talk about who wrote it yet, as they know that's all the libs will want to talk about once the memo is released!

To make it stick the underlying info will have to be released as well. My guess is that it will be eventually, but still not sure why they are taking so much time in playing their cards, if they truly are such winners. Trying to outlast Mueller would be my first guess, but if this could shit him down niw why wait?

That is unreal...If Hissing Sid tomorrow was Saturday, you’d need at least 5 others to confirm it.

They only wrote this story to get Schiff’s spin out there.

“”This may help carry White House water, but it is a deep disservice to our law enforcement professionals.”

The People should be the ultimate judge of that.

Not this ass-wipe.

Here’s something else to consider. For how long, and how broadly, does the weaponization of federal law enforcement and the Intelligence Community and the abuse of their capabilities extend? How many members of Congress, how many judges, justices and so on were blackmailed, their cooperation and complicity ensured by information obtained through illegal electronic surveillance?

I think a case can be made for at least 25 years starting with Craig Livingstone. As for how broadly, it's clear top FBI/DOJ/State officials were operating freely throughout 2016-17. Leaks, snarky text messages among elites. All knew that another elite would replace Hussein (Jeb, Hillary, whoever) and they would never be held to account.

Hannity says everything we've suspected for a year+ is true, and that only 30% of what happened is "out there".

I’ve been told it’s more like 20-25% of what’s been discovered - and they aren’t done.

Well, at least CBS finally acknowledged the story and mentioned it.

I’ve seen Trump Jr. chime in on Twitter, but I haven’t seen President Trump mention the memo at all. I may have missed it.

It’s still my belief that nothing will come of this.

Since this morning I’ve read in several places the memo was compiled directly from DoJ papers, so I’m less concerned that’s it’s a stunt.

What I’m not clear on yet is, how long the Intel Committee has had this information.

I’m finding it damned near impossible to keep with with current events. The information overload is intense.

The information overload is intense.

Absolutely it is. And worse, our normally level headed site FR is under siege by not only those who are insisting we should trust Mueller (of all people), but all this 'Q' nonsense as well.

From what I can tell, Devin Nunes is the current hero of what's going on. This is his committee, and per reports this is primarily his memo. I think they had already written a draft of the memo, but finalized it once the DOJ (primarily Rosenstein since Sessions is AWOL) finally had to cough up the actual evidence that substantiates the memo.

So focus on Nunes to see what the case against Obama/Clinton/FBI will be. And the pressure should be applied to Sessions to end the witch hunt and actually do something about the attempted stealing of the election that was done by the Democrats, not Trump. He may be doing that secretly, but since he was last seen shouting at Nunes' committee in Congress, that appears doubtful.

The memo is based on documents that the FBI was forced to turn over to the committee by a threat of contempt.

I’m pretty well “Q”ed out. I’ve read enough to be skeptical. In fact, the older I grow, the less I’m inclined to believe anything like Q. But I have no difficulty if I’m mistaken, owning it. Whoever it is, and even if the information is true, he’s created a creative way to be seen.

We want this evidence to be released now. We want to know who in the FBI broke the law and used FISA as a tool to spie on the Republicans!! Why the delay?

Why the delay?

Because Congress is not a law enforcement body? Because releasing this material now may give the guilty a plea to dismiss charges?
