I think most of us have reflected on that bedrock truth from time to time. It's an unpleasant thing to look at, but look, we must.
For my part, I never thought such a heavy burden would befall our generation, but here it is. Not some glorious tale of our forefathers' bravery and historic valor, but an urgent, real life crisis that we ourselves must attend to.
I can only pray that, when the moment comes, we can find our courage, and prove ourselves worthy of all that prior generations have bequeathed to us.

And not against some unknown enemy but against fellow Americans, some guilty of the highest order, others guilty of immense ignorance and an unwillingness to see things as they are. Family against family in some cases as it were.....no glorious victory as you said, but a necessary victory none the less.
