WASHINGTON ― Wisconsin Democrats scored a major upset victory Tuesday when they won a state Senate race in a district that Donald Trump easily carried in the 2016 presidential election.
Top Wisconsin Republicans ― including House Speaker Paul Ryan ― acknowledged it was a blow to their party, and it could mean bad news for the GOP in the 2018 midterm elections.
I know this district fairly well. Its not my district. Its over in western Wisconsin. But typically, weve held this seat. And we lost this seat last night, Ryan told reporters in Washington on Wednesday. So yeah, I think we should pay attention to it.

It's not a Trump issue, it's a GOP issue. Rather than fighting for the people, the GOP is infighting with Trump. What don't you get? The people are tired of politics as usual and want real change to take place. Until the GOP learns that, Trump or not, they will continue to lose close elections.
My comment. You can't blame this on Bannon anymore. The GOPe whipping boy is gone now.
Follow your own advice, Paul.
This coming from the guy who’s helped engineer it.
I didn’t follow this races, but every race in the nation needs to be contested.
I don’t see the Republicans contesting.
When it came to Moore, these guys were MIA or worse.
Many Republicans trashed the guy, even the day before the election.
We’re not going to win if that sort of thing keeps up.
I’m sorry folks, but I do not think McConnell or Ryan give a damn if they lose majority status. They and the GOPe hate Trump that much.
They are still hung up on a political newbie coming in and fixing things. They want to prove he can’t do it.
I am very angry with our party right now.
Scumball Ryan”s solution.... Be more like Democrats. F him
So did Lyin Ryan go over and campaign for the Republican or did he spend his time agreeing with his fellow democrats and bashing President Trump?
I agree. Many here are whistling past the grave yard. The party needs to get it together, and fast, because we all know what Job 1 will be for Speaker Pelosi Redux.
Only 12% R turnout, 33% D.
Paul Ryan needs to pay attention to what has been going on for the last 15 years.
Stop telling people what to do and start listening to your Base.
I wonder if it even occurs to these people that helping Trump accomplish his agenda instead of obstructing (and carping) at every possible opportunity would have given voters a more favorable image of the GOP.
When the midterms come, everyone will know it's Election Day & they will come out! I hope! lol
For starters, let’s rewind the tape back to when it was time to deliver on repealing 0care.
Yes and Fire Paul Ryan
Exactly, but then I don’t think McConnell or Ryan would object.
Of course they wouldn’t be in the majority then, but it would suit their desires perfectly.
If they blow this like I think they’ll try to do, the party will be totally dead to me.
The only reason I hung in there was to get a Reagan/Trump type in there again.
If they thwart any progress, I’ll drop out. To hell with it.
Republicans hold 2 out of 3 solidly, but the story is the one they lost... which only had 12 Republican turnout.....
The real story is Republicans didn’t turnout.... Which is a risk in 18..
Republicans get on board fully with MAGA and economy keeps growing getting the base and MAGA voter fired up to show up should not be a problem.
Go all soft and wobbly... expect to lose.
Ryan is a toad.
Noticed he didn’t mention the one we did win in Wisconsin.
Or the other two we won in South Carolina and Iowa(I believe).
I’ll take 3 out of 4.
When the GOP nominee for any seat is not an open borders Bush League Republican, the Bush League Republicans will work for the Democrat.
Nothing is more important than preventing US (US citizens) from electing anyone who would side with US and the rule of law.
Voters staying home with their thumbs up their asses.
I can’t tell you how many guys I know who share all my opinions but simply won’t vote.
So says the “Backstabber of the House”
