MOSCOW: Temperatures reached -67 degrees Celsius in the remote Yakutia region in Russia on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported.
Pictures circulating on social media showed people posing with frozen eyelashes as temperatures reportedly fell to -50 degrees Celsius.

Residents in Yakutia are normally used to the freezing conditions, with students routinely going to school even when temperatures are -40 degrees Celsius.
However, Tuesday's blistering cold resulted in schools being cancelled throughout the region, reported AP. Parents were also ordered by the police to keep their children indoors.
In the village of Oymyakon in Yakutia, Russian media outlets showed the temperature falling to the bottom of a thermometer that was only set up to measure up to -50 degrees Celsius, said AP.
However, the lowest ever temperature recorded in Oymyakon was -71 degrees Celsius in 2013.
AP cited the press office for Yakutia's governor as saying that all households and businesses in the area have access to central heating and access to backup power generators.
Yakutia is no stranger to cold spells. The region of 1 million people located 5,300km east of Moscow normally sees temperatures that range from 18 degrees Celsius to -40 degrees Celsius. 86

But this article is fake news. Everyone who believes in science knows that since glowbull warming is already proven and already accepted by the vast majority of real scientists, that these temperatures are simply not possible
This story is obviously fabricated by Russians who want to endanger the west with climate change. As Hillary has warned us, do NOT believe the Russians
And it has to be boiling (or nearly so) water, because it flashes to steam very easily, then the steam can condense and freeze quickly.
The trick doesn't work with 'room temperature' water.
What happens when you go outside to pee?
Back in the late 60’s or early 70’s, I experienced -58, -59 and -60 F in northern Wisconsin for three days in a row and can tell you at those temperatures it was damn cold. Hot water Pipes froze INSIDE the house. House was well built and well insulated, had a good furnace, etc. It was just plain DAMN COLD. We survived but prefer to avoid ever seeing those temps again.
Ain’t nature grand?
Makes one wonder how the eyes don’t get instantly frozen....the water toss made me grateful to not live there.
“Oh, show me around your snow-peaked mountains way down south
Take me to your daddy’s farm
Let me hear your balalaika’s ringing out
Come and keep your comrade warm
I’m back in the U.S.S.R.
Hey you don’t know how lucky you are boys
Back in the U.S.S.R.”
The snow turns yellow?
“even when temperatures are -40 degrees Celsius”
FYI: -40C = -40F so you don’t actually have to say C/F at that specific temperature.
