ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. New Mexico has been ranked the eighth worst state in which to retire by the financial website WalletHub.
The site ranked the states using 41 metrics on affordability, quality of life and health care.
New Mexico fared especially poorly on property crime, ranking 50th. It did better on adjusted cost of living, where it ranked 18th; the percentage of population aged 65 and older (19th); and on health care facilities per capita (19th).

“Albuquerque”
Well, they say
that Santa Fe
Is less than ninety miles away,
And I got time to roll a number
and rent a car.
Oh, Albuquerque.
I’ve been flyin’
down the road,
And I’ve been starvin’ to be alone,
And independent from the scene
that I’ve known.
Albuquerque.
So I’ll stop when I can,
Find some fried eggs
and country ham.
I’ll find somewhere where
they don’t care who I am.
Oh, Albuquerque,
Albuquerque.
______________
I spent some time in NM (1970s) and liked it......but maybe now not so much so it seems.
I love The Range Cafe in Bernalillo. First went there over 20 years ago and it just keeps getting better.
You like some of the things I like — the SF Opera (esp. when they do the standards, not the avant-garde stuff), the VLA, Chaco Canyon ruins, Mimbres pottery and yeah, Hatch chile.
They have German Mennonite cheese but no Orange Cheese
Same in Tx
A hole in the wall Mexican place is rare where I live but there was one seven years ago. What nice food and small tacos. Gone of course.
Then that I like. I just cant stand TexMex. Glad you guys finally got decent Mexican food places.
When I go to Northern California we always have a problem finding real Mexican food. No idea why.
Yep. Theyre always the best. Usually small and if you go often the owner is friendly and knows you. Best margaritas and food!
I have wanted to do a big Santa Fa Opera weekend blowout for many years. The other thing I have wanted to try was Christmas week at one of the old Hotels just off the square in Santa Fe, but I haven’t done that yet.
I will admit that like all good places the signature things get overdone. I went by a McDonalds in Maine in early August that had “Lobster Rolls” on its sign.
Mexico is like Italy, USA or anywhere else, Pasta and Red sauce is not a true representation of Italian food, Tuscany, the Med, are worlds apart
Welcome to My world
Those small tacos are real Mexican tacos. We used to vacation in Mexico a couple of times a year. Find some small open air taco stand and order a dozen tacos and a bucket of beer. Perfect for the 4 of us and oh so good.
Weve even eaten them off the back of pickup trucks. Lol
Alfalfa sprouts! that is why!
I know. My brother was married to a gal who was born in Italy. Man could she cook!
The wife and I just ate in Tucumcari last night while traveling through NM. And you're right! We got free sopapillas with honey when the meal was over.
A pleasant surprise!
“Reds Eats” is the only place to eat Lobster rolls! Wiscassett Me. $14 and worth every penny, The whole belly clams and Haddock are wonderful too
They make lobster roll at Mickey D in Vermont too
Ridiculous
“Is this one of those ratings where the conservative reader would be best advised to assume the results are 180 deg from truth?”
Not based on my personal observations of many of these states, which are consistent with many of these rankings.
Why, whatever do you mean?
