In Immigration Debate, Race Matters
World Net Daily ^ | 1/15/18 | Pat Buchanan

President Trump “said things which were hate-filled, vile and racist. ... I cannot believe ... any president has ever spoken the words that I ... heard our president speak yesterday.”

So wailed Sen. Dick Durbin after departing the White House.

And what caused the minority leader to almost faint dead away?

Trump called Haiti a “s—-hole country,” said Durbin, and then asked why we don’t have more immigrants from neat places “like Norway.”

The immigration debate is often framed strictly in terms of law enforcement or economic issues, which are of course relevant. However, the most important question in the immigration debate should be this: do not nations have the right to restrict immigration in order to preserve their national identity and character?

The culture and society of Mexico and Central America are radically different from that of the United States, so opening our borders to millions of meso-Americans will make the US more like Latin America. Is that really what we want? The effect of importing Haitians or Africans in the millions would amount to an even greater clash of cultures. The President's remarks basically amounted to saying that a thousand Norwegians would assimilate into American society more readily than a millions Haitians or Salvadorans. It's always the most obviously factual statements that give liberals (and spineless, politically correct Republicans) the worst conniption fits.

If you confront liberals with facts like this, they will either ignore them or explain them away as consequences of white racism (even though most of these countries were generally in much better shape under colonial rule than they are now).

Trump is forcing a conversation that needed to take place decades ago about this whole issue.

Cultural relativism is just as much of a leftist fraud as is climate change. But it’s been much more destructive.

Race ALWAYS matters to liberals.

Trump says “s***hole countries”.

Conservatives say it’s true about those countries because of corrupt governments, poor education, and low quality of life.

Liberals say those countries are “s***holes” because they are full of black and brown people.

And the media decides it’s the conservatives who are racist.

I've often said that the best thing to come out of Trump's presidency won't be any particular piece of legislation passed, however good some of them may be. Rather, his biggest achievement is challenging what can and can't be discussed and debated in the political mainstream. Until Trump's candidacy and election, "debate" on immigration among Republicans was about one-upping the Democrats on amnesty and increases in legal immigration quotas. Trump has actually put restrictions on immigration back on the bargaining table, whereas before these views were relegated to the "extremist" fringe by so-called "respectable" politicians and media alike.

The liberal view of immigration says that an MS13 gang member from El Salvador is just as good (if not better) a candidate for US citizenship as an engineer from Denmark. And if things don't work out well when the MS13 gang member gets here, well, that's just the fault of racists and nativists who didn't help him out enough.

My bone with Buchanan is strictly theological. He claims to belong to a universal religion. He claims loyalty to this universal religion is supposed to trump all other loyalties whatsoever. Then he adopts this "blood is thicker than water" stuff.

If he is not a theological universalist he should stop claiming to be one. He should adopt a strictly racial religion of some kind. But to try to make of Catholicism (which at one time was dedicating to baptizing every single human being on earth) simply the utilitarian social mortar of "western civilization" is blatant nonsense.

Of course, I spent a lot of time yesterday re-reading Klassen and Oliver (yimmachu shemam vezikhram!) so I'm a little prickly right now. I found Oliver's atheism and belief in an ultimately meaningless universe a poor foundation for his racial crusade, just as I find it a poor foundation for leftist "social justice" crusades.

What is it about atheists and their need to crusade for things???

Well said.

I’ve made that argument to several Liberals in MA and they all decide that they “don’t get it”. For them, it’s just “Trump is a racist” and it does not matter that the only people equating chit with brown skin are the Liberals. They just refuse to see the obvious. Liberalism is a mental disease.

Pat Buchanan (who isn't an atheist) is expressing his views about the kind of country that he'd like to live in - one where people share his language, culture, etc. I don't see anything remotely sinister about that, nor is it contingent on anyone's religious beliefs or lack thereof. You can believe that the society and culture that you grew up with is worth preserving (especially when the alternatives are cultures of crime, poverty, and social dysfunction) whether you're a religious fundamentalist or an atheist, just as you can be in favor of smog-free air and clean drinking water whether you're a religious fundamentalist or an atheist.

Blacks, are not to notice either.

The numbers are proving illegal aliens “do” effect black workers in America!

Black, American citizens are finally returning to the workforce. Why? Because under President Trump and his administration the Illegal aliens numbers are down, hence, black employment up.

I am hoping Trump is giving the democrats all the rope they need... enough rope to hang themselves, to prove to legal citizens that the democrats number 1 priority is helping ILLEGALS.

The democrats don’t give a rats @zz about the out of work Americans. Or the young and elderly class that used to fill all those jobs the illegals have illegally stolen from them.

Of course race matters. The present push for open borders and mass immigration is an attempt to engineer a non-white majority, a demographic genocide. Race is what is pushing this.

After the brouhaha about Trump wanting a merit based immigration system based on an applicant’s skill set, education, earnings potential, etc. followed by his shi’thole comments, I decided to google if there is such an animal as the University of Haiti that mints newly degreed nuclear scientists we might need. The answer is yes and no. Yes, Virginia, there is actually a University of Haiti in Port au Prince (I think the school mascot may be a voodoo doll) rated 3486 academically among all the universities on the planet which I think puts it below the global pile of higher educational institutions . But unfortunately they do not offer nuclear science courses or any PHD degrees for that matter. Thus nuclear scientists are as rare as toilet seats in sh’thole countries.

We need a 20 year moratorium on all immigration. From everywhere.
