Location: Nationwide Compensation: To Be Discussed Posted: Thursday, January 04, 2018 This job expires in 19 days

Job Category: Information Technology Employment Status: Permanent Weekly Hours: Full Time Career Level: Senior Level Telecommute Level: 100% Telecommute Travel Requirements: No Travel Employer Type: Employer

Chief Security Officer Remote Technology Full-time

The Democratic National Committee’s Tech team is hiring a Chief Security Officer to take on the challenge of defending the DNC and Democrats across the country against the kind of attacks that played such a prominent role in the last election.

Who we are The Tech team is a small, diverse team that provides the technology used by candidates and organizers in all 50 states and all 3,413 counties across the United States to analyze data, organize campaigns, raise money, and get out the vote on election day. We are also responsible for helping Democrats across the country defend the data we share with them as well as their own communications.

Do you want to …

Secure the future of our country? Right now a lot is at stake in our country and our team has a huge opportunity to make a real difference. Work with amazing people? We’re building a diverse, distributed team, hiring the best people we can wherever they are—alumni from past Presidential campaigns working out of DC and New York, experienced product developers from the SF Bay Area, and more. Never stop learning? There are people who know about politics and people who know about technology and a few who have figured out some things about how to combine the two, but we are blazing a lot of new trails and you should be comfortable exploring and learning from everyone you can.

You will …

Define security policies to provide defense in depth for the DNC and Democrats around the country. Design and build processes and technology to implement our policies. Collaborate with engineers on our team to build and operate the tools we provide as securely as possible and with state parties and candidates to help them secure their own data and communications. Continually improve the effectiveness of our defenses both by proactively probing for weaknesses and by retroactively extracting all the lessons we can from any breaches we suffer. Communicate a vision for what security for the party looks like.

This is a senior role and you can work either out of one of our existing offices—currently Washington, DC and NYC with a concentration of folks building in the San Francisco Bay Area—or remotely from wherever you are. We’re definitely looking for someone with security experience but don’t require previous experience in politics. If you are coming from industry, however, be aware that some things are different in the world of politics: while we've done some budget hacking so we can be competitive when it comes to salaries we know we can’t beat Google or Facebook. On the other hand, you might legit help save the world.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC), is committed to diversity among its staff, and recognizes that its continued success requires the highest commitment to obtaining and retaining a diverse staff that provides the best quality services to supporters and constituents. The DNC is an equal opportunity employer and it is our policy to recruit, hire, train, promote and administer any and all personnel actions without regard to sex, race, age, color, creed, national origin, religion, economic status, sexual orientation, veteran status, gender identity or expression, ethnic identity or disability, or any other legally protected basis. The DNC is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities in the hiring process and on the job, as required by applicable law. The DNC will not tolerate any unlawful discrimination and any such conduct is strictly prohibited.

Re: “Will they discriminate based on my political beliefs?”

Damn straight they will.
And they are Absolute Idiots!
Look at the complete lack of any mention of professional technical qualifications for the executive job candidate:
“Skills and Requirements Include:
Security experience
Aware that some things are different in the world of politics
Any other applicable experience”

NO Specific details about security standards & controls, privacy compliance knowledge, professional certifications, or technical solution experience.

Eff’ing retarded democrats are Soooo incompetent, inept and corrupt - they’re dangerous!

If they find one that is competent, which is likely with proper salary, they’ll not do anything he says.

And they most certainly will not penalize violations.

They just don’t have any degree of “enforcement” in their law-breaking nature.

Welcome

People join campaigns for different reasons: electing a leader they believe in, advancing an agenda, cleaning up government, or experiencing the rush and adrenaline of campaign life. These are some of the reasons we got involved in politics. We certainly didn’t sign up because we wanted to become cyber experts and we’re guessing you didn’t either.

VI. Authors & Contributors

We come from different political parties and don’t agree on much when it comes to public policy, but one thing uniting us is the belief that American voters should decide our elections and no one else. Our increasingly digital way of living and working offers new ways for adversaries to influence our campaigns and elections. While you don’t need to be a cyber expert to run a successful campaign, you do have a responsibility to protect your candidate and organization from adversaries in the digital space. That’s why Defending Digital Democracy, a project of Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, created this Cybersecurity Campaign Playbook [PDF].

The information assembled here is for any campaign in any party. It was designed to give you simple, actionable information that will make your campaign’s information more secure from adversaries trying to attack your or-ganization—and our democracy. Most of all, we hope this resource allows you to spend more time on what you signed up for—campaigning.

Good luck.

P.S. Do you see a way to make the Playbook better? Are there new technologies or vulnerabilities we should address? We want your feedback. Please share your ideas, stories, and comments on Twitter @d3p using the hashtag #CyberPlaybook or email us at connect@d3p.org so we can continue to improve this resource as the digital environment changes.

In the list of duties, I missed where the CISO educates the DNC users as to what is legal and what is illegal to do with data. That is always a major role of the CISO... education.
