RAMALLAH Palestinian leaders voted on Monday to call for the suspension of recognition of Israel, as they met in response to US President Donald Trumps acknowledgement of Jerusalem as Israels capital.
The vote ordered the Palestine Liberation Organisation to suspend its recognition of the Jewish state until Israel recognizes the state of Palestine, cancels its annexation of East Jerusalem, and stops settlement activity, a statement said.
It was unclear if the vote by the Palestinian Central Council, a high-ranking arm of the PLO, was binding. A previous vote by the council in 2015 to suspend security coordination with Israel was never implemented.
The vote was 74 in favour, two against, with 12 abstentions, according to an AFP journalist present.
On Sunday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas denounced White House peace efforts as the slap of the century.
The rare meeting of the Palestinian Central Council a high-ranking arm of the Palestine Liberation Organization was called after Trumps December 6 recognition of Jerusalem as Israels capital.

Palestinians posturing is always entertaining. Guess we'll have to pay them to change their mind. Wonder where they'll buy electricity.
Palestinian leaders vote to urge PLO to suspend recognition of reality - as per their standard operating procedures.
So I guess if the UN decides we need to settle our debt with China and cede all US land west of the Mississippi for payment and the EU agreed with that, it would be acceptable to you?
Dude - i think thats the entire point. UNR 181 existed before Israel. Its the only recognized boundries.
I realize its difficult to wrap your head around that simple truth, but the likud strategy of facts-on-the-ground continues to fail. If I was a Israeli, there is no way Id own R/E or a business located outside the 181 boundries. One day those areas wont be governed by Israelis.
Gee, I don’t know about the UN existing before Israel but it seems to me Israel existed a little more than 2000 years ago. The Palestinians and other Muslim countries have no intention of letting Israel exist. Looking at the map that the UN wants to divide Israel would be like the French deciding they did not get a fair deal when they sold us the Louisiana Purchase and the UN deciding they are right and demanding the US cede the land back to France. The land in Israel that is contested is also land the Arabs lost when they declared war on Israel and lost and now seem to think they should get that land back.
sorry buddy, but the ethno-religious myths hold no water. If you want to go that route, then you need to also recognize the Palis are simply converted Jews which kinda ruins your whole argument and leads you down a path you certainly do not want to go.
The state of Israel was first recognized in 1948. The borders were defined by UNR 181 in 1947.
And immediately after that the Arabs declared war on Israel and lost....but wait now they want Israel to give back the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights. I guess you would be ok with the UN demanding we give Mexico back Texas, Arizona and California even though we paid them for those territories. Let us look at what has happen in Gaza since Israel gave ceded it to the Palestinian. Numerous rocket attacks, many tunnels bored into Israel from Gaza so they can attack them. If they should cede the West Bank and Golan Geights they would be committing national suicide.
UNR 181 boundries are much more than just Judea & Samaria, check out a map.
And they be the only recognized boundries
The map tells me the Arabs had Part of the Negev, Gaza, Samaria, Judaea, and Galilee. That map guarantees the death of Israel. Back then I think the UN really worked for world peace. Now I think they morphed into the UM (United Muslims).
Death of Israel
back then
Nope - 181 is very much today. Its constantly referenced whenever formal and informal notes are made on the subject. The sooner the likudniks come to grips that they are isolated and losing strategicially, the sooner a catastrophic result will be avoided
