Hawaii state bureaucrat who sent out fake missile alarm escapes any punishment -- remains anonymous

The words “accountability” and “government bureaucrat” are strangers to each other for many of the almost 22 million people who work for governments in the United States. Imagine having a job where you can totally screw-up and seriously inconvenience a million people, and not only remain unpunished, but not even be identified to the people you scared the wits out of.

That is the privilege being enjoyed by the person (a male, apparently, based on the gender pronouns employed) who told Hawaiians that a missile strike was incoming last Satrurday at 8 a.m. John Fund writes in National Review:

[A]pparently, no one is resigning, and the staffer in question is merely being “counseled” and retrained so he doesn’t do it again. According to state officials, the staffer answered “yes” when asked by the system if he was sure he wanted to send the message. He wasn’t even aware of his mistake until mobile phones near him began displaying the alert.

This guy feels bad, right. He’s not doing this on purpose. It was a mistake on his part and he feels terrible about it,” explained Hawaii EMA administrator Vern Miyagi, a former Army major general. But Miyagi declined to say that the staffer would face any disciplinary actions. Richard Rapoza, the official spokesman for EMA, declined to identify the errant employee and added, “At this point, our major concern is to make sure we do what we need to do to reassure the public. This is not a time for pointing fingers.”

I can’t speak for the people of Hawaii, who have always impressed me as rather laid-back, but I am not reassured that no serious consequences follow

What...you expect Democrat Party low life, scum & vermin to be punished or fired...you gotta be kidding me. Forget dumping the guy that screwed up...you have to begin with the Governor and his head of Civil Defense. They are both morons and buffoons of the highest order. Neither has a clue as to reality around them. And Hawaii also has a Democrat Congresswoman that is not-wrapped-too-tight in the brain department. She should hand in her resignation immediately.

You assume the action was not only not purposeful but that an order was not given to publish the warning to everyone in the state.

The delay in rescinding the notice was carefully monitored to judge the effectiveness of the means of transmission. The instantaneous blaming of the President indicated malice aforethought by the democrats that run the state

The government of hawaii is complicit

If he were a Republican, he would have been fired, but this being Hawaii, they only employ Democrats. Democrats are never fired after a massive screw-up such as this one.

We don’t know what kind of “button” there was. We don’t know anything. HI is not going to tell us.

I’m surprised they didn’t use the “computer glitch” excuse.

So, with limited information, I blame the designers of the alert system for not adding safeguards against human inadvertent error.

Many people are wondering if this was intentional, done by some SJW, to call attention to Trump’s nuclear button comment and to unleash a torrent of attacks against Trump. This came right after the $hithole comment and a few weeks after the nuclear button comment.

The laughable “wrong button pushed” cover story is there to provide distraction. Think about it this way. If the US really does have the technology to intercept and destroy incoming missiles and this was an actual event that was “handled”, how would you play this to minimize public panic?

What’s his background?
What are his politics?
Does he hate Trump?
Did he do this on purpose to make Trump look bad?

These are important questions.

He was probably reassigned to the Tsunami Warning Division! LOL!

Me too. They think we are absolute hayseed fools.

It wasn’t just ONE button or switch on a wall or console.

These things have several security safeguards.

I don’t buy that it was “one poor guy”... either.

They’re expecting us to believe as tho ONE guy accidentally left the coffee maker on at the office, which started a fire...

I’m reeeeeeeeally hating politicians and media people who think we are that stupid.

However, I do know many Democrat voters who WILL believe - and blame Trump - because their superiors at CNN tell them to do so.

This is the perfect example of why we are in critical condition. These scumbags are emboldened to continue this banana Republic behavior. As nothing gets done about it.

When will Vern Miyagi give detailed a explanation?

The button-pusher has a name.
