The film-makers behind the documentary which exposed Russias state-sponsored doping programme have accused the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of doing backroom deals with Moscow ahead of next months winter Games in South Korea.
The whistleblower who exposed the programme, Dr Grigory Rodchenkov, is currently in hiding in the US.
Rodchenkovs lawyer Jim Walden described his client whose whereabouts are unknown as extremely brave and an incredible man. Rodchenkov was grateful to WADA for recognising that he was telling the truth the whole time. But he was now distressed that the IOC was considering lifting the suspension of some Russian athletes.
He sees this is as a symptom of the need for reform, not just in Russia but inside the IOC, Walden said...
Rochenkov told the New York Times that FSB officers switched positive doping samples for clean ones, in dead-of-night exchanges at state-controlled laboratories.
This system was in place in London and Beijing, Fogel said. It goes back 30 or 4o years of sport history. Rodchenkov inherited what was an anti-anti-doping system. The system was set up to allow Russian athletes to cheat across all sports in international competitions.
He added: If there is no punishment for fraud on this scale and level why hold the Olympic games at all?
They will be wearing shirts that say: Olympic athlete from Russia and will be allowed to parade in the closing ceremony, Cogan said. Its a gift to Putin so he can put images of triumphant Russian athletes on TV so it looks like nothing happened here.

2) Two of Rodchenkov's colleagues from Russia's Anti-Doping Agency, Nikita Kamaev (who was preparing a book) and Vyacheslav Sinev, died within 2 weeks of each other in 2016.
Did they find them in Gorsky Park, with no pooled blood behind their head on the grass? When the surviving person heard that the other one was dead, did he say, “I’m a dead man.”
Were there nearly 50 different things that clearly pointed to fowl play, related to their deaths?

Russia is and always has been an oriental despotism. The belief in sportsmanship and fair play are Western concepts and never have been adopted by Russian satraps.
Yes, I’d have to agree with that.
It seems since the U. S. S. R. days, they have had a long history of abusing their athletes for performance purposes.
Not just the USSR, their satellite country, East Germany, was even worse.
I believe there were others too.
I haven’t given up my idealism since my youth, when it comes to the Olympics. As a high school aged kid, I was not allowed to even take a trophy for being a team member of my mom’s bowling league. To do so would have invalidated my amateur status.
It is unconscionable to me that people would use some form of enhancing agents.
It’s surprising to me to see programs and people get caught doing it.
Doping is one of the reasons why I don’t bother to watch the Olympics. All of them dope, some are sneakier and better than others at it. Additionally, I can’t get excited about the obscure and inane “sports” that are included in the Olympics.
Don’t be insulting them ice dancers. :)
My favorite Olympics event is the Biathlon....Skiing and Shooting. We need to incorporate shooting into more events.
When 36 competitors at an athletic meet in Siberia earlier this week found out that they were going to be subjected to drug tests by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) before competing, they withdrew.
