The nurse practitioner in our family was saying this year the strains predicted and planned for in the vaccine, did not meet the strains they are seeing on the street. It was termed about 10% effective. Not sure how accurate that is, but it does seem cases are elevated this year.
10% effective is ineffective. This is going to hurt the economy. Millions of people staying at home and not going to work and not shopping.
I seem to remember reading that previous year’s vaccines can protect to a certain degree in future years for people who got them.
It would make sense that strains that the vaccine is ineffective on would spread fastest, once they got going...
They have revised that estimate somewhat saying that it is more like 30-something percent effective. Even if one gets the flu after being vaccinated, it is more likely to be less severe. I worry about my grandchildren, especially the baby who is too young to be vaccinated.
