Despite multiple reports otherwise, President Trump now denies he referred to Haiti and African countries as “shithole countries” while complaining about immigration from those countries.
The president had grown frustrated with lawmakers Thursday in the Oval Office when they discussed protecting immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as part of a bipartisan deal over young immigrants known as ‘dreamers’ who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children, according to several people briefed on the meeting.
“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump had said, according to these people, referring to countries mentioned by the lawmakers.
Trump then suggested that the United States should instead bring more people from countries such as Norway, whose prime minister he met with Wednesday.
Of course if you believe Trump’s denials of sexual misconduct toward all 19 women who have accused him, and you believe all his other lies, there’s no reason to disbelieve him now.

The point, however, isn’t Trump’s choice of language. It isn’t even his description of entire countries as “shitholes,” as bad as that is. It’s Trump’s belief that simply because someone immigrates from a certain country, that makes him or her somehow less fit to become an American.

Exactly. A century and more ago, I’m sure many Americans regarded places like Belarus and Lithuania as shitholes. I’m glad that didn’t prevent my grandparents from immigrating to the US from there.

There is a huge difference between “reports” and “sources.”
One source (story) will generate many reports - usually pointing to the unique source.
If the source is phony, then so are the reports.
I’m still curious where the original quote came from and in what context.

DemocRATs are playing the race card to avoid answering the question why the VISA Lottery only allows people in from countries with certain minorities. It doesn’t apply to Norway or Japan (a non-white) country. Trump was questioning why Advanced countries aren’t on the list.
While I think Trump’s remarks were crude and can be perceived as insulting, It is a fair question to ask why we need more of any group as immigrants. There are tens of millions of people who want to come to this country. How do you decide who gets in and who does not?
We have asked this question as long as we have been a country, and the question has never been seen as racist.

Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said “take them out.” Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!

It is a question MANY Americans have been asking.
Kind of opposite of Nixon who was accused of erasing tape records or having them erased.
Donald would be wise to investigate putting it on record kept at the White House.
I think Durbin made it up out of whole cloth and told it to at least two reporters, who ran it past the Post reporter.

If even existing immigration law were kept, many of these issues would be moot. America has become a hypocrite.
Notice that in all this argle-bargle, nobody has identified the sources of this report. They were “people who were briefed on the meeting.” In law, this is known as hearsay, since the people who were briefed obviously did not attend the meeting themselves. They are only reporting what someone else told them Trump said.
Zero credibility.

I would be willing to bet the $2,500 per year saving on Obamacare (we expect to receive It any day now) that President Trump’s critics
on this issue have also called these places “S**tholes” and other names far worse.
Because they are “S**tholes” and other things far worse.
