If you CANT TELL that this person is an addict, then why would this person be self-conscious about the term “junkie”?
Some people can drink and not be a “Drunkard” or “Wino” (does anyone under 39 even use those anymore?), somehow I dont think they are making a fuss.

I’ll have to ask my ex-junkie heroin addict friend what he thinks about that.
He’s been counseling and mentoring junkies for 30 years. I suspect junkie works fine for him.
