Oprah Winfrey, in a 2011 interview with Piers Morgan, expressed her disdain for writing checks for more than $100,000 to the Internal Revenue Service.
In the interview, Morgan asked Winfrey about her billion-dollar business and inquired about how many checks she signs.
"I sign all the ones for over $100,000 and thats a lot of checks," Winfrey said. "Millions are going out."
Morgan asked whether or not that hurt Winfrey and whether she felt physical pain from it.
"No the most pain I feel ismy accountants will tell you thisevery time I write a check to the IRS, it's a ceremony," Winfrey said. "They come in, for years they came in with wine, now they come in with tequilait's a tequila signing ceremony."
According to Americans for Tax Reform, Winfrey has also criticized the Death Tax in the past.
"I think it's so irritating that once I die, 55 percent of my money goes to the United States government," Winfrey said. "You know why it's so irritating? Because you already paid nearly 50 percent when the money was earned."

She should get a tax accountant or financial advisor to help her with her witholding. Alternatively, she could setup a tax-free trust so she could avoid income taxes entirely.
FLASH:
Okra is too stupid to be President. (Therefore UNQUALIFIED)
You don’t write checks to the IRS. You write them to the US Treasury.
{How’s that for a little Allinsky-ing???)
“”Opra gets it because she has to actually write the checks. Quarterly.””
Sounds like you’re confusing employee withholding taxes with the taxes she pays personally. I think she’s talking about her personal taxes.
Companies aren’t ALLOWED to deduct taxes from employees. They are REQUIRED. If you mean everyone should be on a quarterly basis of paying estimated taxes, yes - then they would feel the pain and that would get everyone’s attention. But this is not what she’s talking about. At least, that’s my opinion for what it’s worth.
She votes for a party that wants higher taxes and irs penalties. Try to figure that one out.
I used to sell real estate. You have to pay your own taxes. And it has to be quarterly.
That’s what I was thinking. But most people never see it so it’s more painless.
Right - we were self employed for years and had the pleasure of paying the entire FICA tax also. It was called SE tax. The estimated quarterly payment had to be pretty near accurate or there was a penalty at tax time. Everyone really should have to go through that procedure, I agree! It would bring it home more than talking about it ever would.
