Success: EPA set to cut nearly 50% of staff in Trump's first term
Washington Examiner ^ | 01/09/2018 | Paul Bedard

The Environmental Protection Agency, seen by President Trump as a bloated bureaucratic whale, is on schedule to fulfill his promise to cut its staff nearly in half by the end of his first term, according to officials.

The EPA Tuesday provided to Secrets its first year staff cutting results which show that the agency is below levels last seen during former President Reagan’s administration.

And if just those slated to retire by early 2021 leave, Administrator Scott Pruitt and his team will have reduced a staff of nearly 15,000, to below 8,000, or a cut of 47 percent.

“We’re proud to report that we’re reducing the size of government, protecting taxpayer dollars and staying true to our core mission of protecting the environment,” Pruitt said in a statement to Secrets.

Several agencies have succeeded in making some cuts, but EPA is taking a lead.

The numbers:

As of January 3, 2018, the EPA has 14,162 employees.

The last time EPA was at an actual employment level of 14,440 was in fiscal year 1988 when Reagan was president.

23 percent of EPA employees can retire with full benefits and another 4 percent can retire at the end of 2018.

Additionally, another 20 percent of EPA employees will be eligible for retirement in the next five years.

Taken together, 47 percent of the EPA will be eligible to retire with full benefits in the next 5 years.

Roll the EPA into the Department of the Interior (70k employees) then cut the entire organization by 50%.

So.....they are currently being paid for essentially doing nothing necessary and will soon be paid for doing nothing. Great.

Every Day is Christmas.

Do you Freeper's here get that the Paradigm for POTUS's going forward is forever changed?

A businessman looking for permanent solutions rather than band-aid over the festering wound to only go back with substandard dressings and never take the actions to heal it. They never fix anything in the swamp, they keep the thing going and going, like a bad engineering organization where permanent redesign insures dependable employment.

I hate to say it, even V.P. Pence looks too political.

Anyway, Bravo!

How sweet, retiring with full benefits...on our dime.

So, you are saying that the contractual agreement with the government workers at the EPA should be ignored?

We need to follow the rule of law.

It’s a good start. This agency is a government-control cancer that has metastasized and almost killed the US economy. Now if every department would do this in 2018, we would see some noticeable improvements in the attitude of the survivors in every agency of government.

I could probably list about 100 government agencies who need reduced by half.
Or, better completely eliminated.
Many are redundant..if not completely useless.

Well, at least it’s a start. In addition to actual federal employees, the EPA needs to SUBSTANTIALLY reduce contractor staff and grants.

Can Trump or Pruitt clamp down on contractor/grant spending via executive order? No contract or grant to be issued unless approved personally by Pruitt.

When you see plant startups delayed because of paperwork, this is why.

Heck, I had issues in the past getting a CD approved. One came in a few weeks before the old one ran out.

A businessman looking for permanent solutions

That is the key. Trump doesn't care about making decisions based on getting re-elected. He just keeps pushing #MAGA.

while you are at it, cut the damn gasoline regs that cause prices to jump upwards of $.15 a gallon at the beginning of every month when gasoline formulas change for no reason whatsoever.
