Natalie Portman got in a not-so-subtle jab at the lack of female representation in the Best Director category last night at the Golden Globes, and social media was quick to react.
While presenting the nominees alongside filmmaker Ron Howard, Portman noted, quite pointedly, that all of the nominees were men.
Here are the all-male nominees, she said as the names of Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk), Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Steven Spielberg (The Post), Ridley Scott (All the Money in the World) and the eventual winner Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water). She did not mention it but was likely thinking the omission of Greta Gerwig for Lady Bird and Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman).
The moment sparked quick reaction on Twitter. Here are a couple of examples:
They brought their golden globes to the Golden Globes.
And Marion Robert Morrison.
(John Wayne)
Thanks nickcarraway. The no-talent sexist Portman sez what? In effect, "I am box office poison, and it's all your fault."
Isnt she in possession of the worm hole thats a transporter to the galactic stuffing mines.???
Saw that on South Park.
Hash tag #high beams.

Young jewess has not got the message, its not who you are but what you are
Must have been freezing in there.
The name on her birth certificate was Norma Jeane Mortenson but she was baptised as Norma Jeane Baker.
In 1942 at the age of 16 she married her boyfriend Jimmy Dougherty and became Norma Jeane Dougherty.
in 1946 she signed her first movie contract and began calling herself "Marilyn Monroe".
She didn't change her name legally to Marilyn Monroe until 1956.
In 1954 she married baseball great Joe DiMaggio and became Marilyn DiMaggio.
After divorcing Dimaggio in less than a year of marriaage she married playwright Arthur Miller in 1956.
She divorced Miller in 1961.
In 1962 she died, reportedly of a drug overdose.
She was the cover model on the first issue of Playboy in December, 1953.
I thought she was the one who did the ping-pong ball trick, oh wait, that was Wynona Ryder, I always get them confused.
She’s right in one way. Gerwig was FAR more worthy of the nod than Spielberg for “The Post”, or Scott for “All the Money...”
Angelina Jolie was snubbed in the foreign language category for directing the incredible Cambodian film “First They Killed My Father” about the communist Khmer Rouge invasion of the country during the Vietnam War period shown from a young girl’s perspective. (It’s based on a memoir of the war written by Angelina’s friend and writer Loung Ung.)
Boldly crafted, well told: a massive labor of love and effort involving a country and people often overlooked, and allowing us to reflect on significant moment of history we’d all do well to remember...and posing some interesting political and philsophical questions.
It is on Netflix and here is the trailer.
