As Planned Parenthood smugly announced, via their 2016-17 annual report, they performed 321,384 abortions last year and received $543.7 million in taxpayer subsidies, primarily funneled through Medicaid.
It raises the question: When will the GOP get some grit and finally defund Planned Parenthood?
There is a myriad of reasons why Planned Parenthood should be defunded, and only one reason why they havent been. Following the Center for Medical Progress explosive undercover videos, Planned Parenthood has been under investigation by numerous committees, including the House Oversight Committeewhich found Planned Parenthood needed no federal funds to operate and could function just as well on its own merits.
The Senate Judiciary Committees investigation prompted them to refer Planned Parenthood to the FBI for investigation due to fetal tissue trafficking. When he referred them, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, the chairman of the committee said: I dont take lightly making a criminal referral. But, the seeming disregard for the law by these entities has been fueled by decades of utter failure by the Justice Department to enforce it. And, unless there is a renewed commitment by everyone involved against commercializing the trade in aborted fetal body parts for profit, then the problem is likely to continue.
The Center for Medical Progress released several more additional videos this year, that shows Planned Parenthood not only worked with an independent third party, StemExpress, to procure aborted fetal tissue, but that they also purposely profited from the scheme. Between the FBIs investigation, the previous committee investigations, and the independent investigations of CMP, this is ample reason to, at the least, withdraw federal funds from Planned Parenthood. They arent using what theyre receiving wisely and they clearly dont need it. Whats the rub?
Not to mention, Planned Parenthood likes to feign like they dont really do many abortions, but their latest annual report proves otherwise. Americans United for Life President and CEO Catherine Glenn Foster pointed out in a statement:
Planned Parenthoods latest annual report demonstrates that the abortion giants bottom line is, as always, its bottom line. Critical patient services such as prenatal care are dropping like a rock, while when it comes to abortion, Planned Parenthood continues to push aggressively to corner the market. Planned Parenthood locations are outnumbered by comprehensive, community-based health clinics 20 to 1, and its affiliates provide services to far less than 1% of the American population, with its client numbers dropping every year. This report demonstrates that truly, we can and should provide safe and holistic health care without Planned Parenthood.
The only reason Congress, which boasts a Republican majority, hasnt defunded Planned Parenthood is because they lack the grit and fortitude they need to do so. Theres no reason, with the overwhelming, damning evidence against Planned Parenthood, that they shouldnt be stripped of $500 million. If Congress can pass a tax bill, they can do this and they should this year.
Let Planned Parenthood bluster and fume Congress still needs to do the right thing.
They try to be the “deep left” in that capacity. But they were quite open about it anyhow, even way back in the 50s; this was noted in books such as “The Conscience of a Conservative”.
The whole “conservative” moniker is a problem. A lot of so-called “conservatives” are Leftist Light.
Whatever the Patriotic Lovers of America and Freedom are called, we need to stand up and drive for NOTHING LESS THAN the restoration of our Free Constitutional Republic.
The real issue here is not the abortions they perform it is he political contributions they make. How can the Government fund an organization that funds democratic campaigns?
I think McConnell was dragged (by the President) across the legislative finish line, as far as tax reform was concerned. I'll give him credit for the Gorsuch nomination, but he was a pristine candidate, and a Justice had to be confirmed. McConnell could've sleepwalked last year, and accomplished just as much.
They have tried. It’s been removed or voted down each time just as predicted.
What happened to planned parenthood in obamacare lean repeal bill voted on at end of last year?

"As Planned Parenthood smugly announced, via their 2016-17 annual report [emphasis added], ..."
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponents Argument
Regardless that 2017 was Pres. Trumps first year in office, the 2016-17 federal budget belonged to Obama, that budget ending in late October 2017 I believe, corrections welcome.
So is there abortion funding in the 2017-2018 budget that Trump signed, or is this fake news?
Did we ever find out what the reason for Ivanka’s not-so-secret secret meeting with Planned Parenthood way back when?
I did notice that while Ivanka got the sads when she learned about “oh, those beautiful babies” in Syria, that reportedly went into the calculation to launch 60 Tomahawks, Ivanka doesn’t seem to be quite as horrified at PP’s butchering of innocent babies and selling their body parts for top dollar.
But I’m sure Ivanka is vehemently pro-life.
The swamp remains and has not been drained yet!
Uniparty. == entire democrat party plus republican leadership plus repub cowards and enablers.
Your Satanic bloodlust to kill babies, and especially black babies, does not belong on this pro-life forum.
Take it somewhere else.
“How can the Government fund an organization that funds democratic campaigns?”
Exactly.
Lou, he did keep the spot open stiff arming Obama on the opening, so I do have to credit him for that SCOTUS seat. That truly was a good move. He’s gotten judges moved along pretty well too, so I will applaud him there.
Beyond that the tax bill was essentially it.
On Obamacare he was dismal.
The man sure toots his own horn.
“I didnt say anything about black babies. The fact that you automatically assume only black people play the knockout game reveals your racism. You should be ashamed.”
I’m not going to be ashamed of opposing abortion advocacy. Abortion is murder. Giving half-a-billion in tax dollars every year to the world’s largest murder-for-hire enterprise is not merely bad fiscal policy, it is also a crime against humanity that should result in the death penalty of those perpetrating it.
It appears you intend to double down on your comment by adding a lie to it. We both know that the “knock out game” is something almost exclusively done by black males against whites. Acknowledging statistical facts is not racism or even prejudice.
However, your post can not be construed as anything other than a warning of the consequences of implementing a pro-life policy. And even if the unwanted pregnancies of white babies that are not aborted lead to angry, white males playing the knock out game down the road, it is still advocating abortion based on situational ethics. Such advocacy does not belong on this forum.
If you are wise, you will report abuse on yourself for the post, stating to the admin or moderator that you misspoke or your comments are being misconstrued. Otherwise it makes you look bad.
Take my advice or don’t.
Aside from God, only you can truly judge your own motives and intentions. You don’t have to defend yourself to me. You will to Him, though. And He knows your motives better than you do.
If youre so offended by free speech you should try Twitter or Facebook. They welcome common scolds there.
“If youre so offended by free speech you should try Twitter or Facebook.”
Gave you good advice for your own benefit. You chose not to take it.
You should reconsider your decision to have a mental breakdown out in the open on this forum.
Your earlier comment was deranged. Now you are just making a fool out of yourself with nonsensical comments.
Free Republic is NOT the place to post your pro-abortion advocacy. That’s not what free speech is. You should refrain from commenting further on the topic until you first go educate yourself. Otherwise you will be digging your hole deeper than it already is.
“Especially black babies? So aborting a Hispanic baby is ‘better’ than aborting a black baby? Sounds satanic to me. You should take care of the beam in your own eye instead of self righteously flaming others, panties all atwist. Your positing that Im pro abortion is an unsupported and untrue supposition in any case. My original post was merely stating a fact, inconvenient or not. There was no advocacy on my part as you well know.”
I’m not interested in a private argument with you by email. If you want to argue, I will do it right here.
Nothing in any of my posts supports any kind of abortion, or the idea that aborting babies of one race is better or worse than aborting babies of a different race.
You continue to double down an unwise post which you should have had removed to save yourself some embarrassment.
Your assertion that cutting “off PP funding of abortions” will result in the knockout game surging in popularity in 16 years, is NOT a fact. It is your opinion. You do not have the ability to see the future. If you did, you would have avoided digging a hole for yourself and embarrassing yourself by these comments.
Just admit you made a foolish comment, ask the admin to remove it, and move on. We’ve all said dumb things we regret. Your stubborn pride is just making you look worse.
I fail to see your logic in claiming you are not arguing for abortion in the original statement in post #20. Are you claiming that increases in the knockout game are a benefit to reducing abortion funding? Makes no sense. Your statement is indefensible.
You have failed to defend it as NOT being abortion advocacy. And yet you stand by your statement, claiming it is fact. If you want to continue defending that statement, it will only make you look more foolish, but it is up to you. I’d again suggest you click the abuse link on yourself for post #20 and tell the moderator your statement is misunderstood, unclear, or came across in some way different than you intended. But that is up to you.
I suppose I see how my harsh response may have backed you into a corner and made you feel you have to defend yourself. If you are pro-life, you should just assert you are against abortion in all cases and against government funding of entities like Planned Parenthood and leave it at that.
For me, I’m tired of having the death and perversion culture of the left rammed down my throat constantly in the media and society in general. Free Republic is a place where I take solace in the fact there are many likeminded people who share my views. I don’t particularly enjoy defending pro-life, pro-family, pro-first and -second amendment, and pro-conservative views here in arguments with other forum members.
So if I’ve misconstrued your views, I’m not trying to denigrate you personally, just defending my own. I still strongly recommend for you to quit defending post #20. You can have it removed if you want. I think people respect those who can admit mistakes and own up to them more than those who can simply win an argument. Doing so would not be an admission of guilt on your part or that I somehow won the argument. It is simply a matter of protecting your own reputation which, if you truly are pro-life, I do not want to harm any more than you do.
In fact, if you get the moderator to remove post #20, I will also ask that he remove my post #32. Would that help to bury the hatchet?
Susan Collins.
Lisa Murkowski.
I would prefer the government keep funding abortions for registered Democrat women.
It should be illegal, under threat of imprisonment, for registered Republican women to have abortions.
