I recall two powerful incidents from many years ago when I sang at monthly Immigration Naturalization Citizenship ceremonies in Maryland. After the thousand or more citizenship applicants in the room took their oath of allegiance, the grand finale featured me singing my song, "Celebrate America.." It felt good knowing mine was the first song they heard as new American citizens.
On one occasion from my seat on stage, I saw an elderly gentlemen in a wheelchair who looked to be around 100 years old. When it came time for him to take his Oath of Allegiance, a great grandchild on both sides of him raised him to his feet. One grandchild held the gentleman's right hand into the air as he tearfully recited his oath. The elderly gentleman's entire family, standing behind him, were crying.
Clearly, becoming an official U.S. citizen was extremely special to the elderly gentleman and his family. Becoming a U.S. citizen was obviously a major dream come true to every applicant. Every month, I witnessed the room erupting into cheers and applause with tears rolling down faces when the immigration officer from the podium congratulated the new American citizens. I cannot imagine these new Americans immediately running out to apply for welfare. I knew the new citizens in that room wanted to assimilate and help make our American family better; eager to pursue their individual American dreams.
In his relentless effort to devalue what it means to be an American, Obama exempted citizenship applicants from a major part of the Oath of Allegiance. Applicants no longer have to pledge to defend our country.

I think the rats and RINOs devalue American Citizenship in virtually everything they do.
800 of those 1,000 new citizens will vote for the Democrat Party.
And they don't need to be USA citizens to get welfare.
They are eligible for every form of government assistance as soon as they get a Green Card. Most of the people in that room had a Green Card for 5 years, or more.
Refugees, DACAs, the parents of anchor babies, people seeking temporary asylum, almost every immigrant legally in the country is eligible for welfare.
Citizenship used to be a precious jewel worth defending.
As with everything else they touch, the rats have soiled what it means to be an American. They would rather preside over a miserable nation in decline than be bystanders in a happy and prosperous land.
We are citizens of the World, doncha know.
I am not sure how loudly I must say it, but as soon an any immigrant steps foot on this country’s soil he or she must sign an oath of allegience. At the same time, they will understand they are not agreeing to belonging to two countries or that their religion will supercede all others in this country.
Why can’t we do this?
What is so hard about saying, “If you do not sign, you are leaving ASAP. If you subvert this statement in any way by doing any illegal action by our laws you are leaving ASAP immediating after your trial if found guilty or if your crime was so heinous you will hang.”

Another small part of Barry’s legacy I’d love to see Trump overturn.
We are all “citizens of the world” in their warped view.
You are absolutely spot on.
My grandmother LITERALLY kissed the ground when she arrived. They were overjoyed at their luck and proud to be Americans. They worked like maniacs and struggled every step of the way. They were glad of the opportunity to work and succeed without any impediment.
They looked, and for a time sounded ‘different’. But they didn't sit around whining about it, they didn't kick and scream or sell themselves to America's enemies just because THEY couldn't hang out at the country club.
Rather - they worked, respected their new home and neighbors and couldn't assimilate fast enough. THAT is how it's done and NEW immigrants need to GET THAT.
Agreed, they only care about votes. But they do it under the guise of “multiculturalism.”
I’ve found that we’re watching a lot of “classic” movies from the 1980s and 1990s to find stuff that is fun and family friendly.
In “Short Circuit 2”, I noticed that the robot is all gold for the citizenship ceremony. The robot is “dressed up” for what is considered an important, solemn event surrounded by humans who feel the same.
Today, they would treat it with such respect.
Check out the readers replies, they are excellent
