An American citizen detained overseas by the U.S. military has asked the American Civil Liberties Union to sue the Trump administration for holding him as an enemy combatant.
The unidentified man spoke with ACLU attorneys this week and said they could challenge his detention in federal court, the ACLU wrote in a court filing entered Friday.
The Trump administration illegally denied an American his rights to access a lawyer and a court for nearly four months, but those efforts have finally failed, said ACLU attorney Jonathan Hafetz. Now that our client has secured the judicial review that the government attempted to block, he looks forward to establishing the illegality of his detention.

Okay, give the treasonous turkey his day in a federal court.
Prosecute him for treason and if convicted go for his execution.
How does that fit in ACLU charter and why should they be involved? Did they defend German-Americans who fought on Hitler’s side? (They were founded in 1920). Okay now because it is just Islam they are terrorizing on behalf of?
Good question that I don’t know the answer to.
In my view the ACLU should have no say whatsoever in this, and U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan should be impeached, but that’s just me.
That’s why you don’t “detain” anyone. Deal with them on the battlefield. Sadly under the Kenyan, our ROE was a fuc*ing disaster.
It would be ironic if the ACLU’s actions resulted in this Muslim clowns execution. The problem is that it will probably cost the government a couple of million dollars to keep this guy out of circulation.
Fine. Release him- to the waiting arms of the Iraqi security services. Dont forget to say, Have a nice day.
The aclu are enemy islamist facilitators like all “progressives”.
Support Free Republic, Folks!
Just shoot the sucker.
The ACLU is always on the side of evil.
The POS is ISIS. Release him in a Shia area and let the Muzzies have their way with him.
Not always. Just 99% of the time.
Treason.
And what is his name? Mohammed Achmed citizen since 2017 or some such crap?
I wouldn’t doubt it and that’s probably why they aren’t releasing his name.
“Deal with them on the battlefield.”
Really, it’s done in every war. It’s better to have it appear they got whacked in the line of duty, then send the body home flag draped than it is to have the lefties make a mockery out of a trial. Much cheaper too. Easier on the NOK. A win all the way around.

The Trump administration intends to transfer a U.S. citizen held in Iraq as an enemy combatant for over six months to an unnamed foreign country within 72 hours, it revealed in a court filing on Tuesday afternoon. The detainee has declined to consent to the transfer, according to the government, and a hearing has been set for Thursday morning. The government did not name the country, but a U.S. official confirmed to The Hill that officials are seeking to transfer him to Saudi Arabia. The detainee, known publicly only as John Doe, also holds a citizenship there, The Hill has...
