It causes great sadness to think back on all that the decaying monuments and buildings of the Third Reich represents. It is grievous still, almost three quarters of a century later, to see the lingering results of the attempted murder of European civilization.

It is sadder to recognize the ideology that supported the Third Reich. Namely, the deeply flawed and essentially falsely religious idea that the power of the unfettered human will can restructure reality continues in the West, albeit in new forms.

The fact is that the belief in the triumph of the human will to power continues to be reformulated in today's identity politics. It exhibits itself in the belief that any human being can identify one's essential being as one wishes and in the idea that society must then be restructured to suit the perception and the will of the self-identified. To put it another way, fascistic messianism has been rerouted to individuals, including mere children, who supposedly have an infallible inner divine light that gives the right to identify the self and to reorder society to conform to one's chosen identity.

That such a pathology migrated to our shores and now is expressed by the American left, now hopefully in its death throes, is a testament to the so-called intellectual flaccidity in academia, including many of the nation's seminaries. Too often, orthodox theology concerning mankind as created imago Dei has been sidelined as a specialty with no particular relevance to modernity other than to fight old battles of the past, engage trivialities of the present, or provide a justificatory framework for new "progressive" ideals of modernism and postmodernism.

The new fascistic messianism now available to the masses repudiates both nature and revelation in order to embrace the lies of the ideologies of [20th & 21st centuries]...

Solzhenitsyn added that using one's own personal scale to decide things for everyone always results in the triumph of lies and violence:

Let us not forget that violence does not and cannot flourish by itself; it is inevitably intertwined with lying ... and the only way lies can hold out is by violence. Whoever has once announced violence as his method must inexorably choose lying as his principle. Good piece - but then again anyone standing on the shoulders of Solzhenitsyn tends to look brilliant... "the sum of Truth resides not in the will of man, but in the mind and heart of God ..."

The problem is that that there's not one liberal in a thousand who will read it all the way through. And, there's not one per million who will not label it, "Hate Speech"...

Not for the first time has the eerie resemblance of the excesses of Progressivism to those of Nazism been pointed out. We are distracted a little, I think, by the fact that Nazism embodied those excesses in a single individual, amusing at the time because neither Hitler nor any of his immediate staff was tall, blond, athletic, and an exemplar of the fictional Aryan "master". Nor, for that matter, were the vast majority of the Germans who followed him, but they were in their minds. It was all one giant game of make-believe with the tragic cost of villainy transferred to living human beings.

Nor was this bit of make-believe restricted to Nazism. The New Soviet Man was precisely such a creature, and when it came time for his leaders to resist the incursion of the Nazi he wasn't there, only the old, enduring Russian fighting for his mother soil. Make-believe crashed into the wall of brutal reality there on the battlefields of World War II.

But the illusion endures, and when a society is so fantastically wealthy as to be able to afford its widespread indulgence we have such absurdities as 57 genders and such evil grotesqueries as race debt and scapegoating based on skin color. "I can be a princess" has moved from the antics of small children to "I can be a princess and you have to go along or I'll smash your mouth in" on the part of adults who feel no compunction about employing the offices of the State to do the smashing. "You are a supervillain" has made the same transition. This is very far from harmless. That road leads to the camps and the crematoria.

These passions tend to ebb and flow, and a strong society can endure them and laugh about them later. A weak society that is itself the target of them cannot - it succumbs to the Nuremberg rallies, the torchlight parades, and the eventual smoking rubble. That's a very high price to pay for human vanity, for adult make-believe.

Fay Voshell has written an historically accurate article here. Liberal fascism has brought the USA to the brink of Civil War: California refuses to follow federal law as required by the Constitution.

And how did such a thing develop? By the non enforcement or selective enforcement of laws nationwide by Barrack Hussein Obama,who had convinced America that it was to become a utopia by totalitarian means.

Hitler did restructure the West and the world. We still speak of the "Post WW2 era" as the era we live in. In everything from the self-hating guilt of the German people, to the outlines of states in the Middle East, to the concept of "racism" as the new original sin - all are due to Hitler's quest. It's hard to argue that human will is not determinative, using him as an example.

People in Nuremberg are still trying to figure out what to do with his old stadium

(I use the term "great" here as historians use it, obviously in his case he was an evil monster, but he still changed the world, in many cases for the worse, or in the opposite of the way he intended, but he ranks with other men for whom Will was primary as the actors in history's drama. Alexander the Great, Augustus Caesar, Mao.

Also: Leftism isn't on the verge of vanishing, it's the ruling ideology on the planet. Mostly liberals call the tunes and conservatives stumble through the dance. Any chance of gay marriage being ended in these United States?

So, I guess the *WILL* of the gays will continue to be the operative deciding factor in America's marriage laws, not God's prohibitions.

I just felt this was one of his weakest articles, and I'm on the ping list and love most of his things.

I find it odd that he quotes Solzhenitsyn at such length. Perhaps he is unfamiliar with his last great work (again, monumental, not morally correct) Two Hundred Years Together where the Jews are essentially blamed for their own pogroms.
