Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham on Friday sent a criminal referral to the Justice Department about Christopher Steele, the author of the so-called Trump-Russia dossier. The referral, sent along with undisclosed classified attachments, accused Steele of making false statements about speaking to the press about the dossier's claims.

Unless he has diplomatic immunity I believe he can be tried and convicted.
And trials bring testimony, that would be the real prize.
Same as we do for Mexican citizens that break our laws, I guess
maybe some thumbscrew adjustment encouraging him to sing. But do it before he is found in a park or stairwell on in gym.

I believe that the lying and misstatements occurred within the dossier, and regarding his assessment of the veracity of the dossier. So he was working for the FBI. The FBI said they used the dossier because Steele said it was valid. To bring Mr. Steele here to answer questions, puts him up against those in the FBI who said that they were acting on Mr. Steele’s confirmation that the dossier was true.
It’s possible that Steele will testify that Hillary was not looking for a true document in the first place. Its possible that Steele will say that he never told the FBI that he thought the dossier was true. And its possible that he will say that he was told to give the dossier to McCain and the FBI by the Hillary campaign. All are crimes, by Americans.
oooooooh..the DOJ....the Elites are soooo scared. The DOJ is for Just-us. not them.
Interesting that nobody has brought up this possibility. Maybe the meeting on the plane by Clinton and Loretta Lynch was on purpose to let her off the hook. She was able to recuse herself so she did not have to indict Hillary. Lets say that she was morally uneasy with so much evidence about Hillary. And did not see how she could possibly not indict her. So she met with Bill in order to recuse herself. Comey then steps in to let her off the hook. All the while making it plain what she did, so it would be old news and would not come out later.

The same thing the UK could do with a US citizen caught with a gun..,for example.
But don’t forget ....Jeff Sessions has to approve. The same guy who let Lois Lerner, Koskinen, and everyone else in the world skate except hemp farmers.
I think it will only serve to prove that it is the FBI who are lying and not Steele. Hope that’s not the case, but I suspect that may be at the root of this.

He’s not the target.
The FBI and Justus officials who used the dossier to get a FISA warrant are the targets. That means they are aiming high up the food chain to Lynch.
This action isn't designed to actually apprehend Steele, nearly as much as it is to show the FBI, and then ultimately Mueller, were biased against Trump by not identifying this issue and prosecuting it own their own. And by proving he is a liar, his entire body of evidence, and subsequently any additional evidence based on FISA warrants, are thereby considered unreliable if not inadmissible.
I read that this occurred because the Steele testimony is at odds with that of the FBI. This is the way to get DOJ to actually “discover” that it wasn’t Steele who lied, but the FBI. It’s an end-around to nail the McCabe crowd.
Is it possible that they believed the MSM, but somehow, someone has convinced them the actual facts are very different than what they have been exposing?
