This photo illustrates why the term “nor’easter” correctly describes this storm and the media-contrived “bomb cyclone” is all about stirring up emotional responses rather than rational thinking. There were postings today in various places of a snowstorm in 1978 that deposited nearly 2’ of snow in Boston with photos of people cross-country skiing in the streets. Back then, it was just weather as it happened in the winter, persevere and spring would soon arrive.

Where, and when, did they come up with a “bomb” cyclone? It’s a friggin’ Nor’easter! Now, if Bowbama was still pResident and Christie was still gubner of Joysey, there could be a hugfest between the two, this weekend!...on the beach!

Yeo what’s with this bomb cyclone terminology?

I remember a couple years ago, the weather described a series of bad thunderstorms in the east as a derecho. All the news people were using that term, which I had never heard before.

It does seem that they want to whip us into a frenzy about the weather.

I saw the Fox weather garu who explained that the bomb, bombacious, attribute resulted in the very large drop and resultant gradient of the barometric pressure.

It was that unusual pressure drop value that added the term that was grabbed by the media and rendered as bomb
