Miami-Dade’s beleaguered transit system took its worst plunge in use ever in the past fiscal year, new figures reveal.

Ridership among all four transit modes declined a combined 9.6% as almost one in every 10 riders disappeared.

....just as the county is promoting plans for six new legs of mass transit in its multi-billion-dollar Smart plan....

And the comments are far more informative than the article.

In my neck of the woods, we used to have buses running ever half hour. Few years back they went to just hourly. So not convenient at all for folks trying to get to work. Gas prices fell, but not the fares. And the buses the transit system uses are fricking huge and are never full. I’ve never ridden on one that’s more than a third full.

You need to understand that the motive for mega-projects is not to improve the lives of others. It is to create an opportunity to skim off cash for friends of politicians, who are then expected to kick-back to those same politicians. It’s what drives the establishment of both parties, but has truly been perfected by the Democrats. That’s why West Virginia has over 40 Bildungsroman and highways named after Senator KKK Byrd.

They should have fewer omnibuses and more of the small kind.

I used to ride the bus every day, and it was great motivation to save for a car. It really wasn’t so bad, but you were certainly exposed to people who weren’t safe.

Tallahassee was taking hits because people on the roads could see the city buses were almost always empty. The city responded by buying buses you couldn’t see inside of. On several occasions the city has tried to close off roads to traffic with the stated intention of “forcing” people to use the bus.

From my own experience, most of the traffic on the roads is not going to places where the buses go and they don’t do it on schedules that the buses follow anyway. The traffic is also not for doing the things the city imagines it’s doing, like commuting to government or university jobs. Much of that traffic is going to and coming from companies like building supplies and air-conditioning supplies. So I’m going to get a 300 pound compressor on a city bus? Oh, let’s not forget $400 worth of groceries and furniture from Costco.

Idiots...

I asked a transit employee about getting smaller buses. I was told by said employee, FWIW, that if the transit sys wanted gov’t funding, they bought the buses the gov’t told them to buy: IOW, the honkin’ big ones. What the hey, eh, it’s other people’s money.

I’ve used a variety of forms of mass transit, in a variety of places over the years. The one commonality: Every single fricking one of them would have been better run if privatized.

Multi-million dollar mass transit projects to shuffle illegal aliens around into YOUR neighborhoods.

Where public transit systems are doth the crime rates rise.

Even Hollywierd knows this! Just about every scene involving mass transit depicts the worse conditions possible.

I’ve never ridden on one that’s more than a third full.

In a nearby town, they have a massive fleet of buses that have never contained more than a few people at a time... EXCEPT when they are transporting "youths" who for some reason are not taking the other massive fleet that is run by the school district.

(The district found a way to do forced busing and still convince the masses that it isn't forced busing. Such de facto racism is good when Democrats and "smart people" are in charge of things.)

Trips on the city buses when two or more feral youth decide to victimize polar bears is a real treat, which is the major reason why fewer older polar bears ride these particular buses.

I don’t care about the Miami-Dade transit system...I don’t care about the New York/New Jersey tunnels. Why - all of a sudden - is every liberal state’s problems a National Emergency?

Sounds a whole lot like sloppy money management, to me.

The feds need to drive these problems back down to the local/state level so the residents can see the failures, and replace their local/state “leaderships”.

Yeah, as long as people are worried about their physical safety mass transit will be avoided by all who can do so.

Im currently in Colombia...spend several months a yr here..and most cities, except Bogota have excellent bus service...all run by private companies. Cheap and clean. Never have to wait more than a few minutes for a bus.
Contrast that to Broward-Miami Dade.
