The United Way of Waco-McLennan Countys decision to cut 83 percent of its funding to The Salvation Army of Waco has left Salvation Army officials scratching their heads and questioning the partnership with the nonprofit going into the new year.
The Salvation Army received the largest cut among the 21 local nonprofits the United Way funds. The cuts are part of an ongoing effort to transition from an allocation-based funding model to a grant-based model this year, and a result of a decline in donations in the past five years, United Way Executive Director Barbara Mosacchio said.
Mosacchio, who started the role in March, said the change is not a reflection on the Salvation Armys work, despite the impression Salvation Army officials may have gotten. Salvation Army officials said they were blindsided by the cut and are unsure where they stand moving forward.
The United Way will make the change in February to streamline its funding model with a new strategic plan and a shift to focus on four core impac

salvation army is such a great charity, i will definitely be giving to them more
Absolutely. And they support many organizations that conservatives find distasteful (especially Planned Parenthood). Supposedly you can direct your donation to your preferred recipients, but you can't be certain that will actually happen. Your money will do more if you donate directly.
The president of the United Way pulls in more than $1 million annually.
I wish I was a contributor so I could halt the contributions, but I did that years ago when United Way started supporting the insane idea of allowing queer boy scout masters into the boy scouts...
Yep. Give a buck or as little as you can get away with. Designate even that. Then do your real giving direct to the organization you like
Political contributions for both. Interesting, sadly:

Lemme guess....The Salvation Army is now too “Christian” for them.
To think that charities many decades ago were primarily Christian church-based, required church attendance and work at something productive (unless physically/mentally unable), and declined the able-bodied, unless it was a depression era. Teach a man to fish approach.
It appears SA is now filled with SJW proggies, too, like so many other previously good organizations.
Given the advancements in payroll technology, there's no reason that every employee shouldn't be able to designate their own giving by using the federal ID number of the desired non-profit (or for-profit). It's no one's business. And that keeps the left from buck-blocking religious organizations and other groups that don't toe the left's line. Getting rid of the three piece suit United Way bull**** would be a bonus for fundraising. Workplaces participating in the UW drives recruit or assign the work of the drive to a "volunteer" on their own payroll.
At the plant I worked in everybody was expected to contribute via payroll deductions......They are indeed a scam
Ahmen to that friend
Christian Salvation Army should have NO relationship with uber-liberal United Way.
I told them “hell no” and swore I’d go direct to the IG if they pressured me any further or punished me for not giving. :)
Lol Hmm you’ll give me $5 so I give $5 to united way? Hmm sounds like a ‘kickback’ or laundering scheme, hey mr. Manager what is the phone # for the ethics hotline that was mentioned during training?
The SA needs to curb their virtue signalling if they want to stay relevant. They cancelled at Mar-A-Lagos last year because Trump assigned equal blame for the fracas at Charlottesville. Not a good idea to PO half your donor base.
Not sure how they ended up but their kettle drive in Delaware was down 50% at one point.
At my previous place of employment, we were taken into an office with the door closed and given the United Way card to sign in front of our manager. My son was a Boy Scout at the time so I picked the smallest % and designated it to the Boy Scouts. The troop leaders said they never received the $$, the United Way donations went to the Boy Scout Corporate office.
Don’t ever give a dime to United Way. Crooks.
“Im disappointed to learn SA took any money from United Way.”
