I remember the days when calls went through a designated person, if it was a family emergency they would come tell us to call.
When I worked in the corporate environment, the department managers got the phone bills & went through it to see if all the calls were company facilities. And we were salaried, professionals. This was worldwide company policy. When the internet came about (thanks Algore) only managers had connections & were authorized to use it.
