Communism was evil and doomed to fall on its own as it did with just a moral nudge from Ronald Reagan.

But RR didn’t use covert activities to bring down the USSR and Eastern Europe like is being done by the covert operators in Iran, following the pattern of street protests-the pattern of Libya, Syria, Egypt (leading to Muslim Brotherhood rule since ended) and Ukraine.
Egypt didn’t send military advisors to help Assad for nothing. They saw the pattern of what happened to their country happening again.
You have no proof that there are any outside influences on Iran, especially from the USA. The pattern emerging there is closer to the overthrow of communism in E. Europe than the middle east.
In the case of Syria we essentially declared war on it. Suddenly what had been tolerated under the Assads became intolerable when it was attacking ISIS allies.
