The economic vector of West Virginia (and parts of Pennsylvania and Ohio adjoining it) has reversed course since the election of President Donald Trump, going from depressed (and forgotten) to growing and attracting huge structural investments from overseas. You can see the changes on the ground, not just in dry economic statistics. It is one thing to read about GNP growth roughly doubling since President Trump reformed the oppressive regulatory environment and devoted attention to reviving King Coal to his former majesty in West Virginia (and then some).
Casey Jenkins of the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader writes from Wheeling, WV about what is already visible and what is on the way for one of the most depressed areas of the nation:
As 2017 closes, the wait is on to see how the announcement by China Energy to spend $83.7 billion to build petrochemical plants and electricity generators in West Virginia will unfold in 2018 and beyond. The proposed PTT Global Chemical ethane cracker for Belmont County, meanwhile, a project with an estimated price tag of up to $6 billion, will eventually realize an affirmative or negative decision, as well.Still, even before these downstream investments, new pipelines continue to be built, new wells are being drilled and fracked, and more coal continues to be shipped out of the region.

Employment up, drug use goes down. Wow, it’s not rocket science.
Good news for this resident of southwestern Pennsylvania.
Senator Manchin is not happy.
China Energy?
Okaaaay....
Well I sure see a lot of coal barges on the Ohio River...I had forgotten their beauty over the past 8 yrs.
Two leading SOEs merge into China Energy Investment Corp.
I hope we know what we're doing....
One of my hopes for 2018 is that the trash-to-energy plants that the EPA have been discouraging once again begin to built. Sweden utilizes their trash to produce a huge percentage of their electric and heat needs.
I really don’t know what Manchin is going to do. I don’t think he’s slick enough to have sold his office enough to have millions in the bank. I don’t think he has any future on K street. At least the mines will be hiring in 2019.
And dont forget Fast Eddie Rendell says Dopey Joe will easily beat Trump in 2020.
“ethane cracker?” What is that?
What does Senator Mancin do? Does he just retire or attempt to run and go through the humiliation of losing? Can you imagine the rally that Trump will have down there in 2018 to support the Republican candidate for Senate? MAGA!!
Senator Casey from Pa is also up for re-election, but something tells me that it will have to be a wave election to get that scumbag out of office. We’ll see, I hope the pubbies put up a good MAGA candidate to challenge him...
I see lots of anecdotal good news, l live in the mountains in a tourist area, businesses are doing well.
There should be trash power centers all over the country. I know that the NY metropolitan area and NJ could use one.
Recycling doesn’t make much sense to me. You make a product with petroleum - as ingredients and maybe to power the process. With recycling, you break it down with petroleum/coal, ship it off with diesel, then remake it.
Why use so much more energy?
Oh wait, billions in kickbacks. Thanks politicians.
It’s a mfg plant which produces ethylene plus by-products such as acetylene, benzene, and heavies, by heating ethane to the point of breaking up ethane molecules or “cracking” them, and then separating the components.
He takes natural gas from the fields then runs it through the cracker(a large vessel that puts pressure, heat and time) to change the molecules to the correct length to eventually make ethylene which gets turned into polyethylene (plastic).
Because the gas from the field is constantly a different makeup, the cracker is adjusted every 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, in reality land....
"The U.S. capital has swapped top spots with Silicon Valley, according to recent Census Bureau figures, with the typical household in the Washington metro area earning $84,523 last year," Bloomberg reports. "The national median income for 2010 was $50,046."

Might want to check the stats of the thriving community outside the North Gate of the USAFA too, before ya start waving the foam in the air.
What he said. :)
To your point, the population the metro NYC area is roughly twice that of Sweden. That gives you an idea of how much energy isn’t being recouped.
