For illumination, I obtained the local temperature data from NOAA

I plotted the daily highs and the lows over the winter for several years. I also plotted the daily historical average .

There is wild variation from day to day. the monthly plots for each year also showed variation for any gien day.

The average temps approach a linear condition but with a slight downward curve into January and february returning upward in March.

Thanks to both of you for trying to help me on this.

I have no formal training in statistics.

To my eye, the main issue here is that NASA’s historical data on temperature anomalies - all the way back to 1880 - can be altered by new anomaly data entered in 2017.

How does that happen?

If the historical anomaly data is not permanent, why is it important, why do we even bother to preserve it?
