Small cities from north to south brace for increased turnout Monday after joining the mass demonstrations a day earlier

TEHRAN, Iran — The largest protests to strike Iran in nearly a decade continued unabated Sunday night with demonstrators across the country poised for a fifth day of unrest, despite stark government warnings of a crackdown to end the stand-off.

In addition to major metropolises that have seen mass protests since Thursday, smaller cities from north to south held protests Sunday and were expecting increased turnouts on Monday, according to regional reports.

I think among the reasons you have violence in protests on the Left in the US under Trump, but no violence on the right under Obama are:

The huge philosophical guide difference between Left and Right. The Left is all about power and control. I think it was Lenin who said, “Power comes from the barrel of a gun.” For the Right, power comes from persuasion and agreement.

Another reason is the Left doesn’t have a job beyond creating political change. They can afford to break property and risk arrest. The Right, not that they would use violence, but they have a job, responsibilities and needs that getting arrested would jeopardize. Here is the basis which will predict whether the Iranian hostilities continue until the regime falls.

These protesters are likely not like the political Left, hell bent on creating something in the image they have been sold on and worship. They are more akin to the Tea Party in America. If the average Iranian is not able to meet his family obligations of putting food on the table and shelter over their heads, then there is nothing to stop those protests from continuing other than a historic crackdown that kills hundreds or thousands of people. (The Tiananmen Square protest death toll was estimated at 10,000, but that is out of a population of 1.5 billion. Iran has a population of 80 million, so, theoretically it would take fewer casualties to put down the protests.)

In previous protests the Iranian government has brought in killers from Arab nations, many of whom didn’t speak Farsi, the Iranian language. They did this because they were afraid their own army might revolt when ordered to shoot their own women and children. So far, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has not been much used. This may be because the protests are against people who know they can’t rely on it. Or, it may be for fear the guard could join in the protests.

Given that governments, our own included, routinely lie about inflation and the economy, it may be that this protest could become a revolution. It just depends on how bad things really are for the majority of Iranians. I guess all those pallets of cash Obama sent were not spent on food production and healing the economy. Oops. Their bad.

“Ninja in a hijab. Awesome.”

This is a women’s rights revolution. It’s great to see a female Rambo fighting for freedom.

Never underestimate a person’s will to be free.

It amazes me that the younger generation in the USA is willing to be enslaved in order to be lazy.

My local news station was very careful to state things in such a way that the viewer would conclude that the people protesting were the ones who killed the protesters.

Divine intervention aside, the success or failure depends on the various military units.

There was a report that the Guards might favor the revolt.

The UN is AWOL in this conflict, much as they have been in North Korea, with which the UN is still, technically, at war.

Though the American military bore the brunt of the fighting in Korea from 1950 to 1954, supposedly the “police action” was under the auspices of the UN, as Russia had boycotted the meetings of both the Security Council and the General Assembly, and China was divided between the Chinese Communists and the Chinese Nationalists, neither one sitting on the Security Council.

Russian pilots were flying sorties in MiG-15s against the badly outclassed F-51 Mustangs and the first operational US jet fighter, the F-80 Shooting Stars. While the F-80 could hold its own in a dogfight, the MiG-15s could easily outrun them in a straight pursuit. The F-80 was widely used for photo recon, at which it excelled.

Of course, the Soviet Union never admitted their participation, but until China sent in ground troops, they provided most of the resistance to the northward advance of the US forces to the Chosin Reservoir on the Yalu River, in November 1950. Then a combination of outrunning their supply lines, one of the harshest winters in a century on the Korean Peninsula, and the swarms of Chinese crossing the frozen Yalu River, put the primarily US forces into one of the worst routs they had ever suffered in any conflict, leaving behind literally thousands, many of whom simply froze to death, the wounded who could not be evacuated, or trapped with no escape and were slaughtered as they ran out of ammunition.

The UN was disappeared somewhere far beyond the Korean borders by then, and it was pretty much a US fight from then on.

Even without MacArthur.

Yeah. You know the muzzie crack downs. No water cannons, teargas, etc. No, it is more like AK47 and huge machine guns to disburse the dead bodies.
