McGill was apparently in a Black seat, a Black dem succeeded him, no Republican even ran nor has run for the seat since 1992. McGill barely beat a Black guy in his final rat primary in 2012. So the Senate moved to the left on top of it. I can’t tell you what the SC Senate Republicans were thinking other than “I don’t want to be LT Governor”.

Under-performing in ultra low turnout specials doesn’t really worry me so much, but rats are clearly motivated to contest every seat.
No, we don’t have resign to run in TN. Sen. Beavers felt she couldn’t adequately serve and run for Governor at the same time. But, still, Pody’s 1% margin in the special to succeed her was really terrible.
