“Romneycare is McMuffin. I’ll take Hatch any day if that’s the choice. Yes, I’m in Utah, and I vote.”

The truth of the matter is that if the Mormon Church really stands for its principles and its “Articles of Faith,” then Mitt Romney warrants excommunication along with his RAT buddy Harry Reid. You may be in Utah and you may vote, but with the exception of perhaps Salt Lake County, Utah votes Mormon, and if Hatch decides to get out, Romney WILL be the next Senator from Utah. I’d really like to see Hatch step down, given his age, but he’s the only thing between Romney and a Senate seat.

but he’s the only thing between Romney and a Senate seat.

Re-elect Hatch, he has a new excitement about politics with Trump on board.

Are there no other true conservative patriots in Utah to run for Senate than a failed hack like Mittens or old geezer Hatch?

You raise an interesting question; Utah was admitted to the Union in 1890, but only after Mormon apostles received a revelation that polygamy was no longer kosher.

Since then, how many senators from Utah have not been Mormons? So, no charges of carpetbaggery if you enter Utah politics while proclaiming Joseph Smith to be your prophet?

You are exactly correct on all points.

“he’s (Hatch) the only thing between Romney and a Senate seat.”

I agree with that, the way things stand now.

Hatch is slowing down with age (83), and was thinking about getting out. It seems that all the coordination at Church HQ has been completed for Romney to succeed him - it is just a matter of Hatch deciding to go. It is unknown if he has already committed retire, or if the preparations were just made out of prudence.

At the tax cut announcement, Hatch did seem jazzed about Trump’s performance as leader for the Republicans, and evidenced a renewed zeal for his job. I hope that he decides to run again.

Although Hatch has drifted toward the center (the swamp) on some things over the years, he really has always been a Senator of exceptional character. He has always been one of the few with a bedrock moral compass. I trust his instincts a hundred times over those of Romney.
