In the capital they showed their anger through normally taboo slogans, such as death to the dictator, chanted by students gathered near Tehran university a barely veiled attack on the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Clashes with security forces followed.
It was not clear how many were detained in Tehran on Saturday, but scores of protesters are believed to have been arrested in western Kermanshah and eastern Mashhad, Irans conservative second city, where the latest unrest began.

The “men” will be wearing body armor and scimitars, cutting protestors down from speeding cycles.
Where’s Bono of U2. Isn’t this kind of uprising right up his alley?
‘by Really Bad Guys.’
Iran is a regime run by Mullahs who believe that their primary purpose in life is to bring on Armageddon and the appearance of the Mahdi. This is a regime that sent young children into mine field with golden keys around their necks, telling them they were on the way to their promised 70 virgins. Most of the children were probably too young to know what a virgin is. I have no idea what they promised the girls.
The Egyptian people know who the Muslim Brotherhood is. That’s why they booted them out of power. Our own government needs to listen to what the Egyptian people, and follow the money. The Muslim Brotherhood and all its offshoots need to be outlawed and hunted down.

that right. taking out ISIS to a large extent, sent a strong message.
That’s not this protest. There are photos floating around from other demonstrations
“Not analogous to what Obama and Hilary did in Egypt and Libya.” And thanks for clarifying. That was what I was thinking - not that I think Trump would do something like that, but that perhaps an Obama leftover might.
I know Iran is bad. Good riddance and all that. Just my concern was the above.
Your reply made me wonder so I read an article in Wikipedia. It seems to be somewhat complicated. In general, Sunni Muslims are more restrictive than Shia Muslims. Only extreme Sunnis are totally against the depiction of human beings. And now a big surprise... Ayatollah Sistani of Najaf even allows the depiction of Mohammad if it is made with the utmost respect.
In these situations I think of Iraq. We ousted Sadam Hussin (sp?) and look what happened. He was a bad guy, but he kep the really bad guys in check. I would not want into Iran under any circumstance.

To the Iranians, January 1 is not that significant of a new year. To Iranians, the real new year, which they call NawRuz is on March 21.
