I think Graham understands which side his bread is now buttered.
McCain is probably involved in the dossier, but now has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. No sense in hooking himself to this.
And as unlikely as it might be, perhaps Sen. Graham has had a change of heart: DJT’s notions on immigration are right in line with the citizen’s thoughts on immigration:
We are a kind and benevolent people, and if we can avoid sending these young adults back we should - WITH CONDITIONS THAT ENSURE WE DON’T GO THRU THIS AGAIN IN THE FUTURE.
Hence the restrictions on chain migration, visa lotteries, etc.
Btw, there is a good reason why the nation of Mexico is in every federal court in the country trying to PREVENT these kids from being returned to Mexico. Remember, the Mexican Constitution says they are Mexican citizens. Don’t ignore this, it’s the reason:
If 800,000 so-called Dreamers go back to Mexico, they have been influenced by American life...how a country is supposed to be run. Schools, job opportunities, running water & electricity, roads & bridges, telephones. They have never known a world without these things, but they will if they go back to Mexico.
THIS is why Mexico doesn’t want them back and why the gov’t hopes they aren’t deported. THEY WILL MAKE TROUBLE FOR THE MEXICAN GOV’T BY ASKING HARD QUESTIONS.
Such as: how come Mexican schools are only gov’t paid thru the 6th grade? And how come, in each of those years, do children only attend 1/2 a day? This means that every Mexican child that shows up in the US as a 11/12 year old, has had the US equivailent of a 3rd grade education? And will slow down the entire class in order to catch up?
