Rep. Rodney Davis said Friday that he plans to introduce a bill to make the tax changes for individuals permanent.
Were going to introduce a bill to make them permanent and I hope that many of the Democrats who talk about making them permanent will join me in supporting this legislation,

Hell will freeze over before the Democrats vote for this.
I’m sure you’re correct and they’ll show themselves to be the hypocrites that they are.
Permanent individual tax rates = GOOD.
Restoration of full SALT deductability = GREAT.
Permanet individual tax rates + Restoration of full SALT deductability = GIAGUNDO.
GO FOR THE BRASS RING!
Don’t settle for merely “good”.
Nice strategy there Rodney. The Dems have been bellyaching about the fact that the cuts expire at some point in the future. Put em on the spot.
Even Boinie said they should be permanent, but he, like all Democrats, voted against cutting the rates.

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponents Argument
This is not how legislative powers work. Congress can repeal any law it makes, either with Oval Office approval or a veto override.
ON THE OTHER HAND
If the states were to wake up and repeal the 16th & ill-conceived 17th Amendments, then that would make tax change as permanent as it can get under the Constitution.
Corrections, insights welcome.
They should make the corporate tax cuts permanent too
Full repeal of the ACA will do more to stabilize the middle class than any more tinkering with fiscal policy.
The focus now should be doing what should have been done months ago.
now if someone can get the SCOTUS to actually change their unlawful glenshaw glass and other rulings to make the income tax truely a tax on income and not wages, that would be something.
And they’ll give the Republicans a great issue to run on.

Corrections, insights welcome.>>> my two cents: It doesn’t matter what congress does. the supreme court, et al makes the laws in this country. re glenshaw glass, etc.
As Morton Blackwell always says, never let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

I think you’re misinterpreting his intent. He’s not trying to make the tax rate cuts permanent for all time.
Instead, right now they’re temporary and expire in 2026. He’s trying to remove/change the provision that makes them temporary so that the cuts don’t expire.
You’re tackling a different subject than he is.
Absolutely, they can pound the Rats on it.
Good move. I’ve been advocating this since the bill was passed. Now that the tax bill is law, a bipartisan vote to make the individual cuts permanent is possible.
It wasn’t possible before the tax bill was passed because no Dems would vote for the tax bill itself, so the GOP was forced to use the reconciliation procedure. The result was a temporary tax cut.
So, call the Dems’ bluff and hold a vote to make them permanent now.
>>Hell will freeze over before the Democrats vote for this.<<
Maybe so, but a lot of them are now on tape saying that a serious shortcoming of the bill is that the cuts for individuals is only temporary and that taxes are going right back up in 2026.
“Hoist on their own petard” is the expression that fits here, I think, so let’s hoist away. If nothing else, it will make for good campaign footage in the upcoming elections.
Thanks for reply kvanbrunt2.
Now that you mentioned the Supremes, repealing 17A would put a major dent in helping to keep activist, state sovereignty-ignoring justices off of the bench.
In fact, the amendment(s) to repeal 16 & 17A could include new powers for the states to impeach and remove bad-apple federal lawmakers, executives, justices and other officials since corrupt Congress has shown that it cannot be relied on to do the job.
I think this is worthy of a ping.
Off the Wall Ping!

How ‘bout adhering to their platform AND the Constitution and *SHRINK* Fedzilla a bit....a few agencies here, dept or two there; Hell, maybe even wipe out the (illegal) Welfare State
THEN, you can ‘bill’ each and every Citizen for their % of the cost of running govt.
