That’s a very interesting figure of speech: “I believe in science”.

What does the speaker mean by that?

a) I believe in the method, that is, iterative falsifiable hypothesis testing against null. I will not test hypotheses which are unfalsifiable. This is what I mean by “I believe in science”

b) I believe in what scientists say, when they are talking about their area of expertise. This is what most people mean by “I believe in science”. Of course, the unstated corollary is that “scientists” within their domain are incorruptible and do not respond to incentives and disincentives the way the rest of us do.

c) I believe in what scientists say because, in the area under discussion, what they say is useful to me for my own purposes. This is what most politicians mean when they say “I believe in science”.

How would one decimate a single individual person? By cutting off one of something they have ten of, like perhaps fingers or toes?

Sounds kinda medieval to me for a crazy white woman just shooting off her mouth again.

Let’s be careful with Pocahontas.

We don’t want to decimate her until 2020 comes around. We need her as the democratic party’s candidate for president.

You can believe in G-d and the like, but science is demonstrable; it either is or it isn’t - unless dealing with quantum physics, which must be where she got confused.

DNA is also based in science.

I might be getting a bit picky, but, the wording doesn't work.

DNA is nature.

DNA research is science. DNA research is based on scientific principles. DNA itself is not science. It's like saying that warm of cold weather is science.

DNA did not depend on "science" in order to have existed. What researchers and scientists in general do, is to investigate that which existed prior to the undertaking of research or investigation or wonderment.

The abuse of the word ‘science’ nowadays is endemic. It is what Neil deGrasse Tyson does when he takes what is normally a neutral term that describes a useful methodology for testing a hypothesis, and he stretches it all out of proportion in order promote a pop political agenda of pure materialism and atheism. SCIENCE! is my shorthand for this kind of abuse. (’Climate change’ = AGW is an example.)

During the Enlightenment that started in the 16th century, philosophers like Erasmus argued that faith and reason were compatible. Not only compatible, but essentially so. And so there was a strong desire to explore God’s Creation, to understand it, so as to understand Him. It set the stage for the explosion of learning and scientific discovery that allowed the West to dominate the world for four centuries.

SCIENCE! turns it all upside down. It attacks the Judeo-Christian beliefs of the Enlightenment that enabled free scientific inquiry and shuts it all down in favor of strict authoritarianism and credentialism in the service of hard materialism and Marxist ideology.

“Trump’s tweet, which seems to conflate weather and the broader environmental trends climate scientists attempt to model, reiterates his often repeated claim that international agreements designed to combat global warming, like the Paris accords, amount to a cynical attempt by foreign nations to drain U.S. resources.”

Is that a paragraph or a sentence?

Secondly I have had the weather vs climate discussion before. It is generally brought up with a sense of disappointment. Disappointment in the education level. Always a tinge of snobbery. However these same people will comment on how hot a July day is and hint that as children they don’t remember it being so hot.

This global warming issue is complex and takes some time to easily refute. Easy only when the adversary is interested in truth. But I won’t go into that on a smart phone keyboard.
