Organisers of Berlin's New Year's Eve celebrations are to set up a "safe zone" for women for the first time. The new security measures planned for the Brandenburg Gate party come amid concerns about sexual assaults.

A large number of assaults and robberies targeting women at Cologne's New Year's Eve celebrations two years ago horrified Germany. Hundreds of women reported being attacked by gangs of men with migrant backgrounds.

Yes it is hindsight to talk of this now but many people argued against WWI involvement at the time. And Wilson won re-election by promising to keep us out of war.

If we had stayed out there probably would have been a negotiated settlement and no Hitler. And maybe no Lenin, though that is less clear. But certainly, without Hitler, no Stalin conquest of Eastern Europe.

As for good guys and bad guys, the Germans were certainly the aggressors in Europe and in the Atlantic (a hard thing for us to ignore, I know), but all around the globe the Brits, the French and the Belgians were acting like a bunch of proto-Hitlers and as we see today Western Europe as a whole isn’t worth a single John Kerry band-aide wound of a single American citizen.
