Johnny Manziel cleared to play in Canadian Football League

Johnny Football is free again. He might be back on the field soon, too.

The Canadian Football League on Thursday cleared Johnny Manziel to play north of the border after ruling in September it would not allow him to play.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who have his rights after adding him to their Negotiation List in March, have 10 days to offer him a contract.

The CFL's preseason schedule begins on May 27. The regular season begins in June.

On Aug. 30, the Tiger-Cats worked out the former Texas A&M Heisman Trophy winner but said they were not interested in signing him at that point.

On Sept. 27, the CFL issued a statement confirming that commissioner Randy Ambrosie had met with Manziel but that the league was not ready to approve a contract for him.

Bobby Layne probably consumed a lot more liquor than Manziel.

Hasn’t it been about four years since he was an active player? He’s only 25, but seems better known for slumming around and getting drunk in public. Maybe he really, REALLY wants to succeed this time, before age sets in.

It’s probably for his best. The CFL actually has enforceable ethics codes on players, so it might help him get his act together.

Heh heh, be funny if Manziel gets a contract with the CFL while Kaepernick is still unemployed.

One of my favorite plays in the NFL was when the Bengals sacked Manziel and did that stupid Johnny Football “money sign” over him. 15 yards for taunting and worth every inch.

“Bobby Layne probably consumed a lot more liquor than Manziel.”

Maybe, but he wasn’t dumb enough to put pictures of it in newspapers. Manziel lives in social media age.

Ryan Leaf Redux heading for the Great White North? If he does go, he’ll be riding the pine in no time, and then be sent back to the USA, clipboard in hand.

His trading cards are worthless and so is he.

End of story and maybe his non-existent career.

Kaepernick's act would not go down well with Canadian sports fans. They have too much respect for the US national anthem, believe it or not.
