Doug Jones was certified by Alabama's state canvassing board today as the winner of the Dec. 12 special election for the U.S. Senate, despite a last ditch legal challenge by opponent Roy Moore.
Jones issued a statement immediately after the certification.
"I am looking forward to going to work for the people of Alabama in the new year," Jones stated. "As I said on election night, our victory marks a new chapter for our state and the nation. I will be an independent voice and work to find common ground with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get Washington back on track and fight to make our country a better place for all."
The certification by the canvassing board made up of the governor, secretary of state, and attorney general, came after a judge denied Roy Moore's request to halt certification of Doug Jones' win in the Alabama U.S. Senate race.
The state canvassing board met at 1 p.m. to certify the results of the Dec. 12 special election for U..S. Senate.
Doug Jones' final margin of victory was 21,924 votes, the Secretary of State's office said before the certification began. Official vote tally: Jones, 673,896, or 50 percent. Moore, 651,972, 48.3 percent and write-ins, 22,852, or 1.7 percent.

Alabama Certifies Jones Win, Brushing Aside Challenge From Roy Moore
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/28/us/politics/roy-moore-block-election.html
MONTGOMERY, Ala. Alabama officials on Thursday unhesitatingly pushed aside a legal challenge from Roy S. Moore and certified Doug Jones as the winner of this months Senate election.
The action, during a brief meeting at the State Capitol, was essentially the states final step before the seating of the first Democrat elected to the Senate from Alabama in a quarter century. It was also a swift rejection, by some of the states most powerful Republicans, of Mr. Moores complaint that he was the victim of systematic voter fraud.
Mr. Joness margin of victory was 21,924 votes with more than 1.3 million ballots cast.
I await a gracious statement from Roy stating that he will accept the results of the election and congratulate the new Senator Jones but will continue to work as a private citizen for the principles he ran on.
Moore is reported to have filed suit to block this certification from going into effect.
He is just a placeholder until Jeff Sessions original term is filled out.
He’ll be gone in 2020............
I await winning Powerball.
In other words he’ll find common ground with democrats and rinos.
His request was denied.
Will be an “Independent Voice”. Okay, let us watch and see.
I’m thinking your wait won’t be nearly as long.
I’m thinking you’re right.
Didn’t he appeal?
We will see how “independent” Jones ends up being.
Many predict he will be Chuckie’s puppet.
And I agree.
You do realize that this Jones guy is in there for good now.
Between him and Shelby, the socialist-democrats now own those Alabama senate seats.
If you think the socialist-democrats are going to give that up, you are delusional. They own Alabama now.
After all, the socialist-democrats convinced the republicans in Alabama to either vote for a socialist-democrat POS, or a write in candidate.
Long wait
Or stay home.
Jones will be gone in 3 years. Give it time.
