Ha! That reminds me of what my best buddy who IS a photojournalist in a medium sized Midwestern city said to me, “There’s 30 minutes of news every day, whether anything happened or not.”

Now with wall to wall news channels there’s always something to talk about whether it’s truly newsworthy only the liberal mainstream media gets to decide.

The one that killed it for me was Ted “What, Me Worry?” Koppel. Made a career out of stretching the Iran hostage situation past the point where there was any real news (until they were actually released - Thanks to Reagan getting elected).

Nightline was just another way to pound more ‘news’ propaganda down our throats. I’d rather watch Gilligan’s Island Reruns until my face falls off.

David Brinkley had no daughters, just 2 sons.

Kind of like Bill Clinton, only he has just one son...that we know about.

I remember those days. Every night at 11:30 on ABC, Ted Koppel would solemnly intone "America Held Hostage, Day 142..." and on and on. I think he got up to 400 plus days of mileage on that one.

I don't think it was the intent but that nightly drumbeat of negativity helped to kill the Jimmy Carter presidency. The message of "America Held Hostage" combined with Carter's "Rose Garden" strategy created the perception that even Jimmy Carter himself was held hostage - huddled in a White House under siege. Even many Democrats were ready for a Reagan style presidency.

Ted Koppel also laid the framework for 24/7 hard news cycles. Up to that point, you only had the network news at 7PM along with "soft" morning shows geared towards housewives and the more serious Sunday morning shows for the men. After the hostages were released, Koppel kept his 11:30 slot and renamed it "Nightline" and other networks quickly followed suit with their own hard news offerings at various time slots.

CNN and CSPAN came on the scene around the same time.

"David Brinkley had no daughters, just 2 sons."

His daughter is Alexis Brinkley.

I believe the original poster I replied to thought Christie Brinkley was his daughter, but I stand corrected - from his obit: “He is survived by his second wife, Susan Benfer Brinkley, three sons from his first marriage, and a stepdaughter he adopted.” The stepdaughter was Alexis. http://www.notablebiographies.com/newsmakers2/2004-A-Di/Brinkley-David.html

Hi, sorry for my mistake and misunderstanding as I haven’t listened to Rush enough to have heard him call BOR Ted Baxter. That really is funny, though.

It was killed by Dan Ratherbiased’s obvious attempt to steal the 2004 election with fakenews documents.
