The historic Jackson magnolia has been on the south facade of the White House since the 1800s—making it the oldest on the grounds. But Tuesday, Melania Trump reportedly made the decision to have it removed after tree specialists determined “the overall architecture and structure of the tree is greatly compromised.”

The decision to take down the tree may have had less to do with the state of the original than the state of the new clone.
These guys know what they are doing.
Thing about environuts is that they don’t seem to get it that not even rocks, mountains, oceans, planets and stars go on forever. Even the starlight we see at night traveled millions and billions of light years to our eyes, but the stars that produced the light might no longer exist. The only constant in the universe is change. God designed it that way for His purposes so, although we must be good stewards of his creations on earth, we cannot alter the grand design.

They should take the wood from this tree and make a commemorative knife with handles from this tree - the Jackson knife - and sell it and use the money for the areboretum or white house grounds.That's a wonderful idea.

Saw it up and make some tables from it and other stuff. They make great cutting boards I guess. Bet the Chef would really like that.

You mean like the Arborist who actually did make the decision, and who has a ten foot healthy offshoot of the diseased tree (which had to have been started long before the 2016 primaries) ready to plant in it’s place?

Much too slow, IMO. Find someone somewhere in Dixie who owns a large Magnolia tree, and would be willing to have it moved to the WH grounds, and christened “The Donald J. Trump Prosperity Tree”. As to financing the project; it can be done, and I would contribute.
It says Melania is concerned about the safety of the press as they stand by the tree when the helicopter takes off. Lol, I wonder if her has the same concerns?
Years ago Rush was commenting on an old tree that had to be cut down. A few people were going to hold a funeral for it!
Rush said, “Trees are a crop! It’s like holding a funeral for an ear of corn!”
They have 8-10 foot offshoots growing nearby? Those are pretty good sized trees. What is everyone getting so bent out of shape about? The tree lives on!
